Welcome to Mahallah Ruqayyah, a distinguished residential hall located at Jalan Imam Malik, 53100 Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Malaysia. For individuals, particularly students, seeking affordable, comfortable, and independent living spaces in the bustling region of Selangor, Mahallah Ruqayyah presents a unique and compelling option. Situated within the vicinity of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), it functions as a comprehensive hostel facility designed to cater to the diverse needs of its residents. When considering long-term stays, especially for educational purposes, finding a place that balances cost-effectiveness with essential amenities and a conducive living environment is paramount. Mahallah Ruqayyah aims to fulfill these requirements, offering a practical and engaging living experience for its community.
From the perspective of local users in Selangor, Mahallah Ruqayyah provides a familiar and accessible accommodation solution, especially for those pursuing higher education. It’s well-known as a residential hall within IIUM, making it a recognized and trusted name among the university community. The design of the accommodation, which includes independent rooms with attached toilets, sets it apart from many traditional hostel setups, providing a higher degree of privacy and convenience that is often sought after. This setup is particularly appealing to students who value their personal space while still being part of a larger residential community. The presence of air conditioning in the rooms, a feature not universally available in all university accommodations, further enhances its appeal, especially given Malaysia's warm and humid climate.
Beyond just the rooms, Mahallah Ruqayyah offers a living environment that integrates natural surroundings with necessary facilities. The abundance of greenery, including tall trees, creates a serene atmosphere, a refreshing contrast to the urban landscape of Selangor. While the presence of wildlife like cheeky monkeys and cute cats adds a unique charm, it also contributes to a vibrant and sometimes unpredictable environment. Our goal is to provide a holistic living experience that supports academic pursuits while offering a comfortable and engaging community for all residents.
Mahallah Ruqayyah is strategically located at Jalan Imam Malik, 53100 Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Malaysia. While technically falling under the Kuala Lumpur postal code, its proximity to Selangor's vibrant areas makes it highly relevant for residents and students in the Selangor region. This location places it within the larger ecosystem of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), making it a key residential option for its student population. Understanding the local context, this address signifies its position within a major educational hub, which inherently influences its accessibility and surrounding amenities.
One crucial aspect of its location, frequently highlighted by residents, is its relative distance from the main university buildings and classrooms. It is noted as the furthest block away from the core academic facilities. For local users, this translates to a rather long walk if personal transport is not available. This is an important consideration for daily commutes to classes, lectures, and university facilities. However, this distance also contributes to a quieter environment, away from the immediate hustle and bustle of the main campus, which some residents might find appealing for focused study and rest.
Despite being further from the academic core, Mahallah Ruqayyah is situated in an area that generally offers good connectivity within the larger Gombak district and to other parts of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. Public transportation options, such as buses and ride-sharing services, are typically available in the vicinity, connecting residents to various amenities, shopping centers, and other parts of the city. While the walk to campus might be long, residents can often rely on these transport options for convenience. The address itself is well-recognized within the IIUM community, simplifying navigation for new and returning residents alike. The surrounding area, while primarily residential and university-focused, provides essential services and local eateries that cater to the needs of the student population.
Independent Rooms with Attached Toilets: Mahallah Ruqayyah offers executive-style rooms that provide a high degree of privacy and convenience, as each room comes with its own attached toilet. This is a significant upgrade from shared bathroom facilities often found in other hostels.
Air-Conditioning (AC) in Resident Rooms: A standout feature, Mahallah Ruqayyah is noted as one of the few, if not the only, mahallah at IIUM to offer air conditioning in the resident rooms. This provides much-needed relief from Malaysia's warm and humid climate, significantly enhancing comfort.
Furnished Rooms: Each room is furnished with essential items including a single couch, a single bed, a study table, and a wardrobe, providing students with the basic necessities for comfortable living and studying.
On-Site Cafeteria with Multiple Vendors: The hostel boasts its own cafeteria with approximately 5 to 6 food vendors. These vendors offer a variety of inexpensive food options, ranging from Malaysian cuisines to burgers, pizzas, and even an attempt at Middle Eastern food. This provides convenient and affordable meal options for residents.
Common Laundry Facilities: Residents have access to a common laundry area equipped with washing machines and dryers, allowing for convenient clothes washing. (Note: Dryer effectiveness may vary).
Common Kitchen Areas (Limited Functionality): While there are common kitchen areas on each floor, residents should be aware that these may not be well-maintained. Limited cooking is allowed in rooms (electric kettle and bar fridge only, not supplied except in Block G).
Maintenance and Room Checks: It is advisable for residents to check their rooms for mold before moving in, especially in vacant rooms, due to the humid climate. Choosing a sunny room is recommended to mitigate this.
"A Great Residential Hall in IIUM (UIA)": Mahallah Ruqayyah is highly regarded within the IIUM community as a quality residential hall, offering a conducive living environment for students.
Male and Female Blocks: The hostel operates with separate blocks for male and female residents, ensuring privacy and adherence to cultural norms prevalent in the region.
Independent Executive Rooms: A key highlight is the provision of independent rooms, often referred to as "executive rooms," each featuring an attached toilet. This offers a level of privacy and convenience superior to many shared hostel accommodations.
Amidst Lush Greenery and Wildlife: The environment is characterized by an abundance of tall trees and greenery, providing a refreshing natural setting. The presence of wildlife, such as monkeys and cats, adds a unique, albeit sometimes challenging, aspect to daily life.
Air-Conditioned Rooms: Mahallah Ruqayyah is notable for being one of the few mahallahs that offer air conditioning in resident rooms, a significant comfort feature in Malaysia's tropical climate.
Furnished with Essentials: Rooms come equipped with a single couch, single bed, study table, and wardrobe, providing immediate functional living spaces for residents.
Reasonably Priced: Despite its features, the accommodation is considered "quite reasonably priced," making it an attractive option for students seeking affordable living solutions.
International Student Community: The hostel is home to a significant number of international students, fostering a diverse and multicultural living environment, likely due to the appeal of air-conditioned rooms.
On-Site Inexpensive Cafeteria: The availability of an on-site cafeteria with multiple food vendors offering affordable Malaysian cuisine and other options is a major convenience for residents.
"Pretty and Colourful Scenery": The natural surroundings and general aesthetic of the mahallah contribute to a pleasant and visually appealing living space.

For local users in Selangor, particularly students considering their accommodation options, Mahallah Ruqayyah presents a highly suitable and practical choice. Its positioning as a residential hall within the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) immediately lends it credibility and familiarity within the academic landscape of the region. This is not just a commercial hostel; it is an integral part of an educational institution, implying a certain standard of regulation and community support that might appeal more to local families and students.
The core offering of "independent rooms with attached toilets," often termed "executive rooms," addresses a significant preference among Malaysian residents for privacy and personal space. Unlike conventional dormitories with shared facilities, Mahallah Ruqayyah provides a more self-contained living unit, which is highly valued for comfort and convenience. The presence of air conditioning in these rooms is a particularly strong draw, especially given Selangor's consistently warm and humid climate. This feature significantly enhances the quality of life for residents, ensuring a more comfortable environment for studying and resting, which is a major concern for local students.
Furthermore, the affordability of Mahallah Ruqayyah, noted as "quite reasonably priced," makes it an excellent option for budget-conscious students and their families. Education expenses can be substantial, and securing affordable yet comfortable accommodation can alleviate a significant financial burden. This balance of cost-effectiveness and desirable features makes it an accessible choice for a wide demographic of local students.
While its distance from the main campus buildings might seem like a drawback, for many, this translates to a quieter, more serene living environment, conducive to focused study. The abundant greenery and "pretty and colourful scenery" contribute to a pleasant atmosphere that offers a break from urban density. The on-site cafeteria with its variety of inexpensive local Malaysian food options is a practical convenience, ensuring residents have easy access to affordable and familiar meals without needing to venture far. This convenience is a key consideration for students with busy schedules.
Finally, the exposure to a diverse international student community, a highlight of Mahallah Ruqayyah, offers a unique opportunity for cultural exchange and networking, enriching the overall university experience. For local students, this provides a chance to broaden their perspectives and engage with peers from around the globe without leaving the comfort of their home state. In summary, Mahallah Ruqayyah is more than just a place to sleep; it’s a community-focused, affordable, and well-equipped living space that meets the practical and comfort needs of local students in Selangor.

A great residential hall in IIUM (UIA).Have male and female blocksIndependent rooms with attached toilets (called executive rooms)Amidst a lot of greenery (tall trees) and wildlife (cheeky monkeys).Has fan and split system A/c (cooling)Furnished with a single couch, single bed and study table and a wardrobe.Mostly foreign studentsNo cooking in rooms allowed, can have only electric kettle and bar fridge (not supplied need to get your own, except in block G). However have common kitchen on each floor (common kitchen area did not appear to be well maintained)Have a common laundry with washing machine and drier (drier not very effective).Remember to check out your room before moving in. Due to the warm and humid climate some of the vacant rooms can quickly become quite moldy. (Recommend to choose a sunny room if you can, less moldy)Quite reasonably pricedIt is the furthest block away from the main university buildings and classes, so a rather long walk if you don’t have your own transport.Has its own cafeteria with about 5 or 6 food vendors with inexpensive food (Malaysian cuisines and also burgers and pizzas and an attempt at middle eastern food. I’d recommend to stick to the Malaysian food)After a while the novelty of the monkeys can wear off and they tend to go through bins and strew rubbish around.Cute cats can and do often create a mess in the corridors
Dec 12, 2023 · Arshad HaqueMahallah Ruqayyah is the furthest from campus. It's does have pretty and colourful scenery. There's quite many international student here, might be because this the only mahallah offer AC in the resident room.
Dec 15, 2022 · Nur Syakira Zulkiflivarious kind of delicious food, people always come looking for their great shawarma, this Ramadan they have congregational prayer for maghrib, isyak, sunat tarawih and witir, do come early get free 'nasi arab' and breaking fast together with them, may Allah bless them
Apr 06, 2022 · Hana AlisaMahallah Ruqayyah might be the ideal place in IIUM for the foreign students. This is like a garden where different cultures come together. For those who can not eat Malay food, it is possible to find different cuisines in the dining hall. Unlike the other neighborhoods, there are also single-class dormitories and VİP dormitories for graduate students. VIP rooms have a toilet, a bathroom, an air conditioner and a balcony.
Jul 07, 2018 · Zeynep CerrahThe cafe offers wide variety of foods such as malays cuisine, arabian foods, pakistanis, chineese noddles and as well as western foods. Normally packed with students at lunch hour and after maghrib. The only drawback is you need to que at the drinks counter before getting your drink.
