Even though the original bridge is no longer there, the area around Kampung Gugup remains a place where the echoes of the past can still be felt.
The Battle of Slim River was a fierce engagement that occurred during the Malayan Campaign in January 1942. **Site of Major Conflict:** This particular area was the scene of a huge high explosion from British 155th field regiment artillery fire. It also had a Bofors 40mm anti-aircraft gun positioned to defend the Slim River bridge, which was eventually destroyed by the IJA. These details provide a vivid picture of the intensity of the conflict.
