Restoran Matt's stands out in the bustling Kuala Lumpur food scene thanks to several distinct features and culinary highlights that have earned it a loyal following:
- Authentic Malay Dishes: The restaurant is celebrated for its genuine Malay cuisine, offering a taste of traditional flavors that resonate deeply with local palates. This commitment to authenticity ensures a truly Malaysian dining experience.
- Excellent Breakfast Offerings: Customer reviews consistently highlight breakfast as a strong suit. The "lontong is served with tasty peanut sauce and is delicious," indicating a mastery of this popular dish. The lontong in Malaysia typically consists of compressed rice cakes served with a rich, often coconut-milk-based, vegetable stew (sayur lodeh) or, as highlighted here, with a delicious peanut sauce, making it a hearty and flavorful start to the day.
- Diverse Breakfast Staples: Beyond lontong, patrons also praise the "pulut kuning, rendang ayam, and noodles." Pulut kuning is glutinous rice cooked with turmeric (giving it a yellow hue) and coconut milk, often served during special occasions, while rendang ayam is a classic dry curry chicken cooked in coconut milk and spices until tender and rich. This variety ensures there's something for everyone, from rich curries to comforting noodles.
- Traditional Kuih Muih Selection: The availability of "various Malay kuehs" and specific mentions of "lompat tikam" are a significant draw. Kuih muih are traditional bite-sized snacks, often sweet and made from rice flour or glutinous rice, with diverse textures and vibrant colors. Lompat tikam, a specialty from the East Coast, is a layered sweet cake made of rice flour and coconut milk, often served with a sweet sauce and grated coconut, making it a rare find for some and a delightful treat.
- All-Day Dining: The fact that they serve "Malay dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinners too" makes Restoran Matt's a versatile option for any mealtime, offering consistent quality and flavor throughout the day.
- Classic Nasi Lemak: As a quintessential Malaysian dish, the availability of "nasi lemak" is a key feature. Nasi Lemak, fragrant rice cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaves, is a national dish usually served with sambal (chili paste), fried anchovies, peanuts, and a hard-boiled egg.
- Tasty Soto: The mention of "soto" being "delicious" further expands their offerings. Soto in Malaysia typically refers to a flavorful yellow spicy beef or chicken broth soup often served with noodles or rice cakes and various toppings, providing a comforting and hearty option.
These highlights collectively paint a picture of Restoran Matt's as a beloved local eatery dedicated to delivering authentic, high-quality Malay culinary experiences.

Restoran Matt's Reviews
They serve malay dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinners too. Breakfast particularly is good. The lontong is served with tasty peanut sauce and is delicious. We also like the pulut kuning, rendang ayam and noodles. Nasi lemak and various malay kuehs are available too
Dec 19, 2020 · Mo KhirBreakfast here is delicious. Tried the soto and lontong, both were tasty. Plenty of kuih muih available too. Lompat tikam is available here for those who are looking. They also sell rendang paste and I was informed to add our own santan and water at home.
Jan 22, 2022 · Ahmad Hazmi (ahmadhazmi20)We were thinking of breakfast but ended having brunch. We dont take any photos today. My friends had lontong, pecal and some kueh while i tried the asam pedas kembong, begedil, tauhu tempe bercili with white rise. Marvellous like homecooked meal.....
Feb 19, 2024 · Nora AbdrahmanGood place for breakfast... always consistent with their quality. Though they serve the same food every day, hence a once or twice weekly visit is justified..
Sep 28, 2023 · Mike SallehWe always come here for breakfast. And they have a wide selection of rice and rice cakes (nasi empit) plus all manner of Malay cakes (kueh mueh) to choose from. You're spoilt for the good food. They have been in business here for the last 30 odd years. Our favourite choice would be the Lontong served with its thick yellow gravy "santan" with plenty of vegetables and "serunding" (coconut grating) plus "sambal kacang" (peanut cili sauce).
