Roti Canai Stall Introduce
For those in Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur with a discerning palate for authentic local fare, and a particular fondness for Malaysia's iconic breakfast staple, roti canai, a true hidden gem awaits. Tucked away discreetly in a back alley on Jalan Sultan, near the vibrant Petaling Street, is a seemingly unassuming establishment simply known as Roti Canai Stall. This humble eatery has, however, garnered a loyal following and rave reviews from locals who laud it as one of the best and most affordable spots for roti canai in the entire city.
In a city bustling with culinary options, finding a place that consistently delivers on taste, value, and authenticity can be a delightful discovery. Roti Canai Stall embodies this perfectly. It’s not about elaborate decor or fancy presentations; it's about the mastery of a beloved dish, served fresh and with genuine warmth. This article aims to shine a light on this inconspicuous yet highly recommended spot, helping our local Kuala Lumpur readers discover why this seemingly simple stall is a must-visit for breakfast or a satisfying snack.
Roti Canai Stall is located at 18, Jalan Sultan, City Centre, 50000 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Its address places it firmly within the historic and vibrant district of Petaling Street, often referred to as Chinatown. However, its exact positioning is noteworthy: it's described as being "in a back alley beside parking lots," suggesting it's not immediately visible from the main street. This "inconspicuous" nature adds to its charm as a true local discovery.
The accessibility to Roti Canai Stall is excellent, particularly for those utilizing public transport. Jalan Sultan is a well-known street in Kuala Lumpur's City Centre, and the stall is within comfortable walking distance from major public transport hubs. The Pasar Seni LRT and MRT station is a mere stone's throw away, providing seamless connectivity from various parts of Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur. This makes it incredibly convenient for locals to pop by for a quick, delicious, and affordable meal without the hassle of navigating traffic or parking.
For those driving, finding parking directly at the alley might be challenging, as it's primarily "beside parking lots" which likely refer to public parking spaces that can fill up quickly. However, being in the city centre, there are usually commercial parking facilities nearby, though they might require a short walk. Given its tucked-away nature, following GPS or asking locals for directions to "Roti Canai Stall in Jalan Sultan's back alley" might be helpful for first-time visitors.
As a specialized food stall, Roti Canai Stall focuses on perfecting a core set of beloved Malaysian breakfast items. Their services and primary offerings include:
- Roti Canai Kosong: This is their standout item, described as being "crispy on the outside yet doughy," which is a hallmark of perfectly prepared roti canai. This plain variant allows the quality of the dough and the skill of the chef to truly shine.
- Roti Canai Telur (Egg Roti Canai): A popular variation where an egg is cooked within the roti dough, offering a more filling option.
- Teh Tarik: The quintessential Malaysian pulled tea, often recommended as the perfect accompaniment to roti canai, known for its frothy texture and rich flavour.
- Curry Dipping Sauces: Roti canai is traditionally served with various curries for dipping, typically dhal (lentil curry), fish curry, or chicken curry. While not explicitly detailed, it's a fundamental part of the roti canai experience.
- Dine-in Service: The stall provides a simple setup for patrons to enjoy their fresh roti canai on-site, offering a genuine local street food experience.
- Takeaway Options: Given its nature as a stall, takeaway orders are readily available for those who prefer to enjoy their meal elsewhere.

Their "promotion" is inherently built into their business model: offering high-quality, authentic dishes at consistently low, "super affordable" prices. The value for money is, in itself, the primary draw and ongoing "special offer."
- Value Pricing: As highlighted by reviews, the pricing is exceptionally competitive, making it a budget-friendly option for daily meals.
- Freshly Made: The constant high volume of customers ensures that the roti canai is always made fresh on the spot, guaranteeing quality and taste.
While you won't find coupons or discount codes, the intrinsic value provided by the stall serves as its continuous "special offer" to the local community.

Roti Canai Stall Reviews
Hands down one of the best roti canais I’ve ever had. People were friendly, food was good, and is very affordable! We only paid 8 RM for 3 rotis and one coke. Even if I just had breakfast at a cafe nearby, I really couldn’t pass on this stall!
Dec 28, 2022 · Carina BailonInconspicuous roti canai stall located in a back alley beside parking lots. We stumble upon this stall while searching for roti canai in the vicinity. Ordered 2 kosong and 1 egg with a teh tarik which costs only RM6.40, super affordable and value for money I would say. The roti canai kosong were the star for us as it was crispy on the outside yet doughy which exactly fits our preference. Highly recommended.
Jul 03, 2022 · Joanne SNice coffee and roti located at the back alley. However, curry is a little diluted. Otherwise all is good! Very cheap 🤑
Apr 12, 2023 · Stef Y.Seriously overrated. The roti I had was like a day old - flat and compressed, chewy and tasteless. The chicken curry I picked was terrible as well, devoid of any flavour. The teh tarik was ok. I won't recommend this place if you want good roti canai, but it may be convenient if you are in the location. The owner of the stall seems nice though. 1 roti + 1 pc of chicken in curry + 1 teh tarik = RM5.50. Average price for this sort of meal in KL, so nothing really to come back here for. Enjoy your roti canai elsewhere if you can, otherwise hold off your expectations and hope it doesn't rain. There are not many tables here.P.S. I am a local and I like seeking out new places to eat and drink.
Oct 25, 2020 · quincy govinCheap good roti. Paid MYR 1.40 for standard roti canai and 1.50 for coffee. If wanting a cheap and quick place to eat here it is
