In Pahang, there are many small towns scattered in between bigger and well-known ones. For example, Benta is a border town between Lipis and Raub district. Back in those days, one has to pass this town by the river but since bypass road had been built, it reverted back to sleepy town status.Development is quite slow and most people rely on agriculture here. This restaurant was introduced by a banker and we did a quick detour just to try the food.◾Steam herbal kampung chicken had a nice and sweet gravy accentuated by the natural sweetness of kampung chicken.◾Braised pork belly with peanut had a nice touch, similar to taw yew bak but not as dark. I'd be happier if the meat was not too fatty.◾Stir fried squid in homemade sauce - fresh squid covered with dark sticky gravy.◾Chinese steam egg with dried shrimps which I loved very much as not many restaurants actually serve steam egg with dried shrimps.◾Stir fried potato leavesOnly if you happen to be in this smaller town, do give it a try. - Boon Loong Leo

Sang Hai Restaurant Introduce

Hello, fellow food adventurers of Pahang! Are you always on the lookout for hidden culinary gems that offer a taste of tradition and authentic flavors? Then let us introduce you to Sang Hai Restaurant, a charming Chinese eatery nestled in the quiet town of Benta. While Benta might be a more serene corner of our beloved state, it holds delightful surprises, and Sang Hai Restaurant is certainly one of them. For those who appreciate classic Chinese home-cooked style dishes made with fresh ingredients, this place promises a truly satisfying and memorable dining experience.

Sang Hai Restaurant embodies the spirit of a traditional Chinese eatery, focusing on time-honored recipes and the freshest produce. It's the kind of place that might not be on every tourist map, but is highly cherished by those in the know, especially locals who appreciate genuine flavors. The restaurant's reputation is built on its ability to transform simple, quality ingredients into delicious, comforting meals, reminiscent of what you'd find in a loving family kitchen. While Benta itself, once a bustling river town, has embraced a more tranquil pace after the bypass road was built, establishments like Sang Hai Restaurant remain vital, serving as culinary anchors for the community. The fact that it was recommended by a local, even prompting a special detour, speaks volumes about its quality and the deliciousness that awaits within its walls. This dedication to authentic preparation and fresh ingredients, particularly a wide variety of freshwater fish, sets Sang Hai Restaurant apart as a must-visit for Chinese cuisine lovers in Pahang.

Sang Hai Restaurant is conveniently located in Kampung Seberang Lipis, within the town of Benta, Pahang. You can find it at 57, C154, Kampung Seberang Lipis, 27300 Benta, Pahang, Malaysia. While Benta might be considered a smaller town, its position as a border town between the Lipis and Raub districts makes it accessible for residents from both areas. The C154 road itself is a local route, and navigating to Kampung Seberang Lipis should be straightforward using GPS or local knowledge. For those driving from surrounding areas of Pahang, reaching Benta via major roads is generally unproblematic. As a local establishment in a quieter town, parking availability is typically not an issue, allowing for a hassle-free visit. While public transport options might be limited, driving is the preferred method for most locals visiting such establishments in smaller towns, offering the flexibility to arrive at your leisure. If you're specifically making a trip to Benta, or happen to be passing through, Sang Hai Restaurant's location makes it an easy and worthwhile detour for a delightful meal.

Sang Hai Restaurant primarily offers dine-in services, providing a comfortable setting for patrons to enjoy their authentic Chinese cuisine. Here’s a detailed look at the services provided:

  • Dine-in Service: A welcoming and unpretentious environment for families, friends, and individuals to enjoy freshly cooked meals.
  • Extensive Menu of Home-Cooked Chinese Dishes: Specializing in a wide array of dishes, from steamed chicken to braised meats, stir-fries, and unique vegetable preparations.
  • Freshwater Fish Specialties: A significant highlight, offering a variety of fresh river fish, including highly prized Sultan fish, prepared in various delicious styles.
  • Takeaway Options: While not explicitly stated, most local restaurants offer takeaway services for customers who prefer to enjoy their food at home.
  • Ingredient Freshness: Strong emphasis on using fresh ingredients, particularly noted for their seafood and vegetables, ensuring high quality and taste.
  • Customization: As a local establishment, they might be open to minor customizations to dishes upon request, adhering to traditional cooking methods.

Sang Hai Restaurant stands out for several compelling features and highlights that make it a truly unique and appealing dining destination for us in Pahang:

  • Delicious Home-Cooked Style Cuisine: This is the restaurant's core appeal. Customers consistently praise the "delicious home cooked style" food, signifying comfort, authenticity, and flavors that remind one of traditional family meals. It’s not about fancy presentations but about genuine taste.
  • Fresh Ingredients, Especially Freshwater Fish: A significant highlight is their commitment to "fresh ingredients, especially sultan fish." They boast a "wide variety of fresh water fish," which is a true delicacy for many, ensuring superior taste and texture. This focus on freshness elevates the entire dining experience.
  • Signature Steam Herbal Kampung Chicken: This dish is particularly recommended for its "nice and sweet gravy accentuated by the natural sweetness of kampung chicken." It’s a testament to their ability to bring out the best in quality ingredients through traditional cooking methods.
  • Unique Braised Pork Belly with Peanut: Described as having a "nice touch" and similar to 'tau yew bak' but not as dark, this dish offers a comforting and flavorful option, showcasing their traditional braising techniques.
  • Authentic Stir-Fried Squid in Homemade Sauce: Praised for its "fresh squid covered with dark sticky gravy," this dish highlights their expertise in creating flavorful and authentic sauces that truly enhance the main ingredient.
  • Rare Chinese Steam Egg with Dried Shrimps: A particularly unique offering, with a reviewer expressing deep appreciation because "not many restaurants actually serve steam egg with dried shrimps." This indicates Sang Hai Restaurant's dedication to preserving and serving traditional, often overlooked, dishes.
  • Reasonable Prices, Especially for Fish: Despite offering premium items like Sultan fish and frog (tin Kai), customers find the prices "very reasonable," making it an excellent value proposition for high-quality, fresh seafood.

As a local Chinese restaurant deeply rooted in its community, Sang Hai Restaurant's promotions and special offers are typically more about consistent value and quality rather than large, publicly advertised discounts. However, customers might find value in the following ways:

  • Value for Money: The "very reasonable prices especially for the fish and tin Kai (frog)" are in themselves a form of ongoing promotion, offering high-quality, fresh ingredients at accessible price points.
  • Seasonal Fish Availability: While not a discount, the availability of fresh seasonal freshwater fish could be considered a 'special offer' for connoisseurs who seek out these specific delicacies.
  • Daily Specials: Some traditional Chinese restaurants might have rotating daily specials or chef's recommendations that are not widely advertised but offer unique dishes or better value.
  • Set Menus for Groups: For larger family gatherings, they might offer set menus that provide a comprehensive dining experience at a fixed price, though this would need to be confirmed directly with the restaurant.

The best way to inquire about any current or upcoming specials is to visit the restaurant in person or, if a phone number becomes available, to call them directly. Their primary 'promotion' is the consistent delivery of delicious, home-cooked style food made with fresh ingredients at reasonable prices.

This is not uncommon for smaller, local eateries that operate primarily on walk-in business and word-of-mouth. However, with the precise address, navigating to the restaurant should be straightforward using popular mapping applications or by asking locals in Benta. Should you require further information or wish to make specific inquiries (e.g., about their daily fresh fish availability), visiting the restaurant directly would be the best approach.
