The allure of the Rainbow Waterfall is deeply rooted in the captivating sight of a rainbow, often a full circle or even a double rainbow, forming over the cascading waters as sunlight hits the spray at just the right angle. Reviews from fellow adventurers highlight the sheer wonder of this spectacle, especially after a good rain, when the waterfall roars with magnificent power and the water is refreshingly cold. This journey is more than just a visit; it's an expedition into the heart of Pahang's jungle, offering an invigorating challenge and a spectacular reward that truly makes all the effort worthwhile. It’s an experience that consistently leaves visitors feeling grateful for the natural beauty found right here in our backyard.
Sungai Lembing Air Terjun Pelangi is situated in the state of Pahang, Malaysia. While the provided address is simply "Pahang, Malaysia," it is famously nestled deep within the jungle near the town of Sungai Lembing. The remoteness of the waterfall is part of its charm and adventure, meaning direct access is not as straightforward as driving right up to it.
For locals in Pahang, especially those from Kuantan, the journey typically begins by traveling to Sungai Lembing town. From Kuantan, Sungai Lembing is easily accessible by car, usually taking about an hour's drive along well-maintained roads. However, the real adventure starts from Sungai Lembing itself.
Access to the Rainbow Waterfall is uniquely challenging and requires specific transportation. As per customer reviews, visitors need to "take a 4 wheel drive to go through the jungle, crossing rivers, riding on bumpy road for about 30 - 40 min." This off-road journey is a significant part of the experience, traversing rough terrains and multiple river crossings. This means that personal vehicles (unless they are robust 4x4s suitable for extreme off-roading) are not practical for reaching the trailhead. Instead, visitors typically arrange for guided tours that provide the necessary 4x4 transport. These tours usually depart early in the morning from Sungai Lembing town.
Once the 4x4 journey concludes, there is a subsequent "hike about 35 min to reach the rainbow waterfall." This trek involves navigating "rocky and steep" paths, especially "when you are near the top." Due to the challenging nature of both the 4x4 ride and the hike, the experience is not recommended "for elderly or individuals with knee or foot injuries," emphasizing the need for a reasonable level of fitness and mobility. Despite these challenges, the managed approach via guided 4x4 tours ensures that locals can access this remote marvel.
Sungai Lembing Air Terjun Pelangi, being a natural waterfall deep within the jungle, does not offer commercial services in the traditional sense. However, the experience of visiting it is facilitated by specialized services provided by local operators.
- Guided 4x4 Transportation: The most crucial service offered for visiting the waterfall is the provision of guided 4x4 tours. These tours include the necessary off-road vehicles and experienced drivers who navigate the challenging jungle trails and river crossings, making the remote waterfall accessible. This is typically a paid service arranged with local tour operators in Sungai Lembing.
- Local Guides: Tours generally include a local guide who accompanies visitors on the 4x4 journey and the subsequent hike. These guides are knowledgeable about the area, ensuring safety, providing directions, and sharing insights about the jungle environment.
- Safety Briefings and Advice: Guides often provide essential safety briefings, especially regarding river crossings and the hiking trail. They also offer advice on the best time to see the rainbow (early morning, clear weather) and precautions (like being careful after raining days).
- Designated Trail Access: While wild, there is a recognized "path" or "trail" from the 4x4 drop-off point to the waterfall, maintained informally by the frequent use of visitors and guides. This "service" ensures a route to the main attraction.
- Natural Spring Water Access: The waterfall itself provides access to "Natural spring water," offering opportunities for visitors to "soak into the water" for a refreshing dip.
- Basic Facilities (Likely at Tour Start Point): While not at the waterfall itself, tour operators in Sungai Lembing town typically have offices where bookings are made, and sometimes offer basic facilities like restrooms before the jungle departure.
It is important to note that direct facilities like changing rooms, toilets, or food stalls are not available at the waterfall site itself due to its natural and remote location. Visitors are advised to bring all necessary personal items, including appropriate attire, water, snacks, and a change of clothes.
Sungai Lembing Air Terjun Pelangi is celebrated for a series of unique features and highlights that make it a truly remarkable destination in Pahang:
- The Rainbow Phenomenon: The most significant highlight is the opportunity to witness a natural rainbow (or even a "double rainbow due to reflection") forming in the mist created by the waterfall. This occurs when sunlight hits the falling water at a specific angle, typically early in the morning on a clear day. This visual spectacle is often described as "superb" and a "wonderful experience."
- Powerful Water Downpour: Especially "Due to raining season," the "water fall downpour beautifully," showcasing the raw power and beauty of nature. The "water is cold," offering a refreshing contrast to the humid jungle environment.
- Immersive 4x4 Jungle Adventure: The journey to the waterfall is an adventure in itself, involving a thrilling "4 wheel drive to go through the jungle, crossing rivers, riding on bumpy road for about 30 - 40 min." This off-road experience adds an exciting and memorable dimension to the trip.
- Rewarding Jungle Hike: After the 4x4 ride, there's a challenging "hike about 35 min" through the jungle. While the path can be "rocky and steep when you are near the top," the "hard work paid for it when you see the rainbow," emphasizing the rewarding nature of the trek.
- Natural Spring Water Soaking: Visitors are encouraged to "go and soak into the water" for a refreshing and "fun" experience, directly interacting with the cool, natural spring water of the waterfall's basin.
- Exclusivity (Weather Dependent): The experience of seeing the rainbow is dependent on clear weather. "The guide told us that you may not see rainbow if it is cloudy," adding an element of natural exclusivity and making clear weather sightings even more cherished. "Thank God for beautiful weather when we went" highlights the joy of experiencing this.
- Photographic Opportunities: The stunning natural beauty, especially the rainbow, provides incredible photographic opportunities, allowing visitors to capture and share their unique experience ("Myself managed to catch a section of the rainbow. (Refer photo)").
As Sungai Lembing Air Terjun Pelangi is a natural attraction and its access is primarily managed through local tour operators, direct "promotions or special offers" in the commercial sense (like discounts on entry) are not common. However, the value and 'offers' often come through the tour packages themselves.
- All-Inclusive Tour Packages: The primary "offer" comes in the form of all-inclusive tour packages provided by local operators in Sungai Lembing. These packages typically cover the crucial 4x4 transportation, a knowledgeable guide, and sometimes even breakfast or simple refreshments, making the complex journey streamlined and convenient for visitors. While not a "discount," this bundled service offers significant value by simplifying access to a remote location.
- Group Rates: Many tour operators may offer discounted rates for larger groups. Locals planning a trip with family or friends can inquire about group packages, which can make the experience more affordable per person.
- Early Bird or Off-Peak Season Deals: While not officially advertised, sometimes local operators might offer slight variations in pricing during off-peak tourist seasons or for early morning bookings to ensure full vehicles. Inquiring directly with operators is recommended.
- Unforgettable Experience Guarantee: The true "promotion" of Air Terjun Pelangi is the consistent promise of a "superb, wonderful experience" and the chance to witness a rare natural spectacle. This intrinsic value is the greatest draw for visitors.
Locals are encouraged to contact various tour operators in Sungai Lembing directly or check their websites/social media for the most current package details and any potential offerings. It's advisable to book in advance, especially during peak seasons.
As Sungai Lembing Air Terjun Pelangi is a natural attraction, there isn't a direct administrative office or single point of contact for the waterfall itself. However, access and tours are facilitated by local operators.

Feb 24, 2023 · Ng CindyGreat hiking experience to the waterfall. Natural spring water with luck you get to see the rainbow 🌈.Myself managed to catch a section of the rainbow. May 31, 2023 · WSAmazing place! To get there, you’ll need to do a trek (~45min) that includes cross the river, some small streams, trail with lots of tree roots and slippery rocks. We were here during the dry period, the waterfall was more like a spray of water rather than gushing with water. Still the view is worth the trek!
Oct 16, 2023 · Siyin TanThe view so beautiful, you can see the rainbow sharp at 9:30 am and the rainbow will going down after that , you have to hiking about 40 minutes . You guys should visit here ! It so worth it. caution with the rocks it so slippery , have fun and take care !
Sep 20, 2022 · Nur HafizaI've heard and read a lot of great stories about Sungai Lembing Waterfall and have always wanted to go there myself. We booked our accommodation ourselves, and then booked the trip to the waterfall through the accommodation where we were staying. The package included the driver picking us up at 5:30am and taking us to the nearby hawker center for a self-paid breakfast. He then took us up to Sunrise Hill where we should have been able to see a "sea of clouds" and the sunrise (unfortunately, it was a cloudy morning and we got to see neither). Only after that, we were to take an one hour of bumpy ride in the truck towards the gathering spot where we would then need to hike on foot. The gathering spot has a toilet, and you can rent a pair of Adidas Kampung for a nominal fee if you do not have a suitable pair of climbing shoes. The trail started by immediately crossing a rather rapid stream, which I think would be challenging for young kids and older folks. After that, it was a rather chill jungle trekking for about 15 minutes, before reaching another challenging part of the journey. It was moderately hard near the waterfall, where you had to traverse through wet moss-covered rocks while holding onto anchored ropes before finally reaching the destination. We were quite early when we reached the area as there were still not a lot of people around, which let us pick a nice spot by the side of the water pool beneath the waterfall, where we could dip our feet into the cold water while comfortably sitting on a flat rock.Sungai Lembing Waterfall is truly one of the most magnificent waterfalls that I've seen so far in my life. The water flow from the river on top must be quite mild, therefore instead of a stream of water directly falling from the top to the pool below, it is scattered into tiny droplets by the protruding rocks on the cliff wall, forming a misty curtain of water. I believe it is exactly this phenomenon, which creates a humid environment that is perfect for a rainbow to form. However, quite unfortunately, it was still rather cloudy when we were there, and we were unable to see any rainbow. Instead, we focused on immersing ourselves in the magnificent view of the fall and the cool surroundings, relaxing our feet in the cold water while enjoying the simple complimentary meal brought by our tour guide.Overall, it was a worthwhile experience, especially for a nature lover like me. I wouldn't mind coming to this place again if I got the chance to.
