A nice mosque for prayers. The building is fairly new, the prayer hall is medium-sized, air-conditioned with comfortable carpets. The ablution rooms & toilets are clean & well-maintained. There’s also some rooms here for classes & programs. Parking spaces are available outside but not plenty. They also hold Jumaat prayers here but need to be early for parking. - Ikraam Abdul Latif

Surau At-Taqwa Introduce

Introduction / Overview

In the bustling heart of Kuala Lumpur, finding a serene and well-equipped place for spiritual solace is a true blessing. For the residents of Taman Setapak and the surrounding areas, Surau At-Taqwa stands as a cherished gem, offering not just a space for prayer but also a welcoming hub for community activities and religious learning. While often referred to as a "surau" (a smaller mosque, typically for local communities), Surau At-Taqwa provides facilities and a vibrant atmosphere that rivals many larger mosques, especially with its capacity to host Jumaat (Friday) prayers.

This modern and inviting establishment is a testament to thoughtful planning and community dedication. Its relatively new building boasts a comfortable and air-conditioned prayer hall, designed to provide a conducive environment for devotion. The emphasis on cleanliness and comfort is evident throughout, from its well-maintained ablution rooms to its soft, comfortable carpets, ensuring a pleasant experience for all congregants. Surau At-Taqwa plays a vital role in the daily lives of the local Muslim community, providing a convenient and accessible location for the five daily prayers, fostering a stronger sense of spiritual connection and communal bond.

Beyond its primary function as a place of worship, Surau At-Taqwa actively serves as a community center. It provides dedicated spaces for classes and various programs, reflecting its commitment to religious education and social engagement. This dual role as a spiritual sanctuary and a community hub makes it an indispensable part of the Taman Setapak landscape, offering a place where faith can be practiced, knowledge acquired, and friendships forged within a supportive environment. For anyone in Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur seeking a comfortable, clean, and community-oriented place of worship, Surau At-Taqwa truly stands out.

Location and Accessibility

Surau At-Taqwa is conveniently situated at Jalan Jerejak, Taman Setapak, 53000 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This address places it squarely within a residential area of Taman Setapak, making it exceptionally accessible for the local community residing in the vicinity. Being nestled within a neighbourhood means that many congregants can reach the surau easily, often on foot or via a very short drive, which is a significant advantage for daily prayers and community participation.

For those traveling by car, there are parking spaces available outside the surau. However, it is noted that these spaces are "not plenty," suggesting that during peak prayer times, especially for Jumaat prayers, it is advisable to arrive early to secure a spot. The limited parking is a common characteristic of community-based facilities in established residential areas of Kuala Lumpur, where land is at a premium. Despite this, the presence of dedicated, albeit limited, parking is still beneficial for visitors.

The close proximity to residential areas also implies good connectivity to local road networks. While specific public transport routes directly to the surau's doorstep might not be widely publicized, Taman Setapak is generally well-served by buses and is relatively close to LRT stations, from which one could take a short e-hailing ride. The ease of access, particularly for those living nearby, underscores Surau At-Taqwa's role as a true community mosque, integrated into the daily life of its surrounding residents. Its central location within Taman Setapak strengthens its identity as a convenient and essential spiritual point for the neighbourhood.

  • Modern and Well-Maintained Building: A standout feature is its relatively new and well-kept building. This provides a pleasant and contemporary environment for worship, contrasting with older, less maintained facilities that some might encounter. The modern design likely contributes to better air circulation and overall comfort.
  • Comfortable Prayer Hall: The main prayer hall is a significant highlight. It is described as "medium-sized," indicating sufficient capacity for daily and Jumaat prayers, and critically, it is air-conditioned and fitted with comfortable carpets. These elements are crucial, especially in Kuala Lumpur's warm climate, ensuring congregants can focus on their prayers without discomfort. The soft carpets contribute to a more serene and pleasant worship experience.
  • Exceptional Cleanliness and Maintenance: Reviews consistently praise the cleanliness and good maintenance of the surau, including its ablution rooms and toilets. Cleanliness in places of worship is paramount in Islam, and Surau At-Taqwa's dedication to this aspect makes it a highly preferred choice for daily worshippers.
  • Dedicated Facilities for Ablution and Rest: The thoughtful provision of ample ablution space (accommodating at least 10 people at a time) and clean toilets, including those for the disabled, demonstrates a commitment to accessibility and comfort for all. • Community-Focused Spaces for Learning: The availability of "some rooms here for classes & programs" is a key highlight. This indicates that Surau At-Taqwa is not just a place for ritual prayers but also an active center for religious education and community development. These spaces enable regular religious lectures (kuliah), Quranic classes, and other educational initiatives that enrich the spiritual lives of the locals.
  • Active Management Committee (AJK): Publicly available information suggests an active and organized management committee (AJK) at Surau At-Taqwa (specifically 'Fasa 1M'), which maintains a portal to share information about activities, lecture schedules, and committee contacts. This level of organization indicates a proactive approach to serving the community and fostering engagement.
  • Broad Range of Community Programs: Beyond religious classes, the surau engages in various social and recreational activities through its different 'Biro' (bureaus), such as Biro Dakwah (Preaching), Biro Kebajikan (Welfare), Biro Keselamatan (Security), Biro Pembangunan (Development), Biro Muslimah (Women's Affairs), and Biro Sukan Rekreasi (Sports & Recreation). This wide array of initiatives demonstrates a holistic approach to community well-being, from 'Mantai' events to sports activities like bowling and badminton, strengthening community bonds.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a place of worship and a community center, Surau At-Taqwa in Taman Setapak does not offer "promotions" or "special offers" in the commercial sense. Its value is not measured by discounted goods or limited-time deals, but rather by the spiritual enrichment, community services, and accessible facilities it provides to the local Muslim population.

However, the "promotions" or "special offers" of a mosque or surau can be understood as the valuable and often free community programs and spiritual opportunities it extends to its congregants. In this context, Surau At-Taqwa's "offers" include:

  • Free Religious Classes and Lectures: The surau regularly hosts various 'kuliah' (lectures) and religious classes on Quranic studies, Hadith, Fiqh, and other Islamic topics. These educational sessions are typically free of charge and open to all members of the community, offering invaluable knowledge and spiritual guidance. The 'Jadual Kuliah' (Lecture Schedule) is often made available to the public.

  • Welfare and Benevolence Initiatives: Through its 'Biro Kebajikan', the surau likely facilitates various welfare programs, such as collecting and distributing zakat, providing aid to the poor and needy, or organizing charity drives. These are direct benefits to the less fortunate in the community.
  • Health and Wellness Programs: Some community centers organize health talks, blood donation drives, or even recreational activities like badminton and bowling (as suggested by the 'Biro Sukan Rekreasi'). While not directly 'promotions', these are beneficial 'offers' that contribute to the community's well-being.
  • Accessible Facilities: The comfort of air-conditioned prayer halls, clean ablution areas, and dedicated rest spaces, all provided for free use by congregants, are "offers" that enhance the spiritual experience and convenience for locals.
