TERRA Trail

Lakeside Putrajaya, Presint 8, 62000 Putrajaya, Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya, Malaysia

3.0
Good initiative by the community to create urban green tracks for both hikers and mountain bikes. Signage for the entrance is placed quite in and hidden from the main pathway. Total length is 1.4km. Went today and quite disappointed and lost cause the trails seemed not maintained for some time with long bushes and fallen trees branches cutting of the tracks. Once went deeper inside the track, almost no direction sign for tracks. Barrier tape also all worn out and many sections are without barrier tapes. Tracks users might easily wander off track. Even found a huge hornet nest so be careful not to crash into it. MTB enthusiasts just be careful when you’re here. Hope they will make good this track to its glory soon. - Y E S

TERRA Trail Introduce

Greetings, fellow outdoor enthusiasts and residents of Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya! Our garden city is well-known for its beautiful landscapes and expansive green spaces, providing numerous opportunities for recreation and relaxation. Among these, for those who crave a bit more adventure and a challenging connection with nature, lies the TERRA Trail.

TERRA Trail is a unique initiative, envisioned by the community, to create urban green tracks specifically catering to both hikers and mountain bikers. Located amidst the serene environment of Lakeside Putrajaya in Presint 8, it offers a distinct experience compared to the city's more manicured parks. This trail is designed to bring the thrill of off-road exploration right into our urban backyard, providing a challenging yet rewarding escape for fitness enthusiasts.

While the concept of urban trails for adventure sports is gaining popularity, TERRA Trail stands out as a testament to community spirit and a valuable addition to Putrajaya's recreational offerings. It's a place where you can push your limits, practice your riding or hiking skills, and immerse yourself in a more rugged natural setting, all within the convenience of the city.

However, it's important to approach TERRA Trail with a clear understanding of its current state, as community-driven projects like this rely heavily on ongoing support and maintenance. Recent reviews suggest that while the initiative is commendable, consistent upkeep can be a challenge, especially after natural occurrences like floods. Our aim with this article is to provide you with comprehensive and factual information about TERRA Trail, helping you plan your visit effectively and appreciate its potential as a valuable recreational asset for locals.

TERRA Trail is strategically located at Lakeside Putrajaya, Presint 8, 62000 Putrajaya, Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya, Malaysia. This places it along the picturesque Putrajaya Lake, making it easily accessible for residents across the city. The trail is nestled within a secondary forest area, blending urban convenience with a touch of wilderness.

Accessing the trail can be a bit tricky, as some reviews indicate that the signage for the entrance is "placed quite in and hidden from the main pathway." This suggests that visitors might need to pay close attention when looking for the entry point. It's often found just off the lakeside bike lane in Presint 8, specifically opposite the iconic Tengku Mizan Abidin Mosque, affectionately known as the "Iron Mosque." The nearest designated parking section for cars is typically at Ayer 8, which is a popular commercial hub in Presint 8. From there, you might need to cycle or walk a short distance to the actual trail entrance.

For those driving, using GPS navigation to "Lakeside Putrajaya, Presint 8" or even "Ayer 8" would be the most practical approach, then looking for the trail signage. Putrajaya boasts excellent road networks, ensuring smooth drives to this precinct. Public transport options, while available in Putrajaya (such as Rapid KL bus routes), may require a walk from the nearest bus stop to the trail entrance. E-hailing and taxi services are also readily available throughout Putrajaya, offering a convenient direct-to-location option.

The urban lakeside location provides a unique backdrop for the trail, offering scenic views while engaging in your chosen activity. However, users should be mindful of the potentially hidden entrance and plan accordingly, especially if visiting for the first time.

TERRA Trail, being an urban green track and a community initiative, primarily offers self-guided recreational opportunities rather than formalized "services" in a commercial sense. The main services it provides are:

  • Multi-Sport Trail Access: The trail is designed for dual use, catering to both mountain bikers and hikers/trail runners.
  • Urban Nature Immersion: It provides an opportunity to experience a more natural, rugged environment within the urban setting of Putrajaya.
  • Fitness and Skill Development: The varied terrain allows users to practice and improve their biking, running, or hiking skills, offering a good spot for time trials or practicing basic forms and techniques.
  • Community-Driven Initiative: The existence of the trail itself is a service, born from the initiative of the community and Putrajaya Holdings to provide such a space.
  • Outdoor Recreation: A free-to-use space for locals to engage in outdoor physical activity.

It's important to note that as a community-created and managed trail, formalized services like dedicated staff, equipment rental, or guided tours are not typically provided. Users should come prepared with their own gear and take personal responsibility for their safety and navigation.

TERRA Trail's features and highlights showcase its unique position as an urban adventure spot. However, it's also important to acknowledge areas that require attention, as highlighted by recent user feedback:

  • Urban Green Tracks: The core highlight is its existence as a dedicated off-road trail within the city, offering a wilder experience than paved pathways. It's an excellent initiative to integrate nature and adventure sports into an urban landscape.
  • Dual Purpose (Hiking & Mountain Biking): The trail caters to both hikers and mountain bike enthusiasts, making it versatile for different types of outdoor activities. This inclusivity broadens its appeal.
  • Variety of Terrain: Reviews suggest the trail has enough variety for enjoyable running laps and practicing basic forms and techniques. While predominantly flat, it features twists, turns, and even a reported 2-meter drop, providing an engaging experience.
  • Community Initiative: It stands as a testament to community effort, initially cleared and designed through volunteer work and supported by Putrajaya Holdings. This grassroots origin is a significant highlight.
  • Potential for Skill Development: The trail is suitable for various skill levels, with hybrids and gravel bikes managing it well, indicating it's not overly technical for casual riders or runners. It is considered ideal for beginner gravel cyclists and trail runners.
  • Proximity to Putrajaya Lake: Its location near the lake adds to the scenic value and allows for combining a trail session with other lakeside activities.

However, it's crucial to address current challenges:

  • Maintenance Issues: Recent reviews highlight concerns about maintenance, including "long bushes and fallen trees branches cutting off the tracks," and "barrier tape also all worn out and many sections are without barrier tapes." This can lead to users getting "disappointed and lost."
  • Lack of Clear Signage: The absence of "almost no direction sign for tracks" deeper inside the trail poses a navigation challenge, increasing the risk of users wandering off track.
  • Potential Hazards: The discovery of a "huge hornet nest" and the mention of the trail being "sunken in the recent floods" indicates potential safety concerns that users need to be aware of.

As TERRA Trail is a community-driven urban green track rather than a commercial establishment, it does not typically offer "promotions or special offers" in the conventional sense. There are no entry fees or special packages to purchase. Its primary "offer" is the free and open access to an urban trail for recreational purposes.

However, the value of TERRA Trail as a "promotion" for locals lies in its provision of a unique and accessible outdoor activity space. For those who enjoy mountain biking, trail running, or hiking, it offers a convenient alternative to traveling further afield for such experiences. The community initiative behind its creation could also be seen as a promotional aspect, encouraging local engagement and appreciation for shared public spaces.

Any "special offers" might come in the form of community-organized clean-up drives, maintenance days, or group rides/hikes, which are often volunteer-based and advertised within local cycling or outdoor enthusiast groups. These events would be opportunities for users to contribute to the trail's upkeep and connect with like-minded individuals. It is highly recommended for potential visitors to seek out local online communities (e.g., Facebook groups for Putrajaya mountain biking or hiking) for the most up-to-date information on the trail's condition or any community activities.

For any general inquiries or to locate TERRA Trail, here is the essential information:

  • Address: Lakeside Putrajaya, Presint 8, 62000 Putrajaya, Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya, Malaysia
  • Phone: As TERRA Trail is a community-driven initiative and not a commercial entity, there is no direct public phone number specifically for the trail itself. For general inquiries related to parks and recreational facilities in Putrajaya, you would typically contact Perbadanan Putrajaya (Putrajaya Corporation), the local authority responsible for the city's development and maintenance. Their general contact details can be found on their official website. For specific updates on the trail's condition or to inquire about community maintenance efforts, engaging with local mountain biking or hiking groups on social media platforms would likely be the most effective approach.

TERRA Trail holds significant potential and suitability for locals in Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya, particularly those passionate about outdoor activities like mountain biking and trail running. Its primary appeal lies in providing an urban green track that brings adventure sports closer to home. Instead of traveling far to find suitable trails, residents have a dedicated space within the city limits to practice their skills and enjoy nature.

For local mountain biking enthusiasts, it offers a convenient spot for short, challenging rides, perfect for practicing basic forms and techniques or even time trials. The presence of twists, turns, and even a small drop caters to those looking to hone their handling skills without venturing into overly technical terrain. Similarly, trail runners and hikers can enjoy a more natural, unpaved surface for their workouts, providing a welcome change from the ubiquitous paved pathways around the lake.

The fact that it's a community-driven initiative also makes it particularly suitable for locals. It fosters a sense of ownership and encourages participation in its maintenance and development. While recent reviews highlight current challenges with upkeep, this also presents an opportunity for the local community to step forward, organize clean-up drives, and contribute to restoring the trail to its "glory." By doing so, locals can directly impact and improve a valuable recreational asset right in their neighbourhood.

In conclusion, TERRA Trail is a testament to Putrajaya's commitment to providing diverse recreational opportunities. Despite current maintenance challenges, its core offering of an accessible urban green track for mountain biking and hiking makes it an invaluable resource for active locals seeking adventure and a deeper connection with nature within our beautiful city.
