This article aims to provide you with all the essential information you need to plan your visit, ensuring a memorable and enjoyable experience.
Location and Accessibility
The Canopy Walkway is located within the magnificent Taman Negara, specifically near Kuala Tahan, in the state of Pahang, Malaysia. For those of us living in Pahang, reaching Kuala Tahan is a relatively straightforward journey. The park headquarters in Kuala Tahan serve as the primary entry point to the Canopy Walkway. From the Wildlife Department Headquarters, the walkway is approximately 1.7 km away, which can be reached by a pleasant 20 to 45-minute trek through the jungle or a short 5 to 10-minute boat ride across the Tembeling River. Small boats regularly shuttle visitors across the river for a nominal fee, making access convenient.
While the walkway is a significant feature, remember that it is part of the larger Taman Negara National Park. To enter the park and access the Canopy Walkway, visitors are required to purchase a park permit and an additional permit for cameras or mobile phones used for photography. It’s always a good idea to arrive early, especially during weekends or peak seasons, as there can be queues to access the walkway due to limitations on the number of visitors allowed at one time. This ensures a more enjoyable and less crowded experience on the walkway itself.
Services Offered
- Park Entry Permits: Required for all visitors entering Taman Negara National Park.
- Camera Permits: An additional permit is needed if you plan to take photos or videos with a camera or mobile phone.
- Guided Jungle Treks: While the Canopy Walkway and Bukit Teresek can be explored independently, many other trails within Taman Negara require a licensed guide for safety and to enhance your understanding of the rainforest.
- Boat Services: River boat transfers are available across the Tembeling River to the park headquarters and for various river-based activities like rapid shooting and visits to other attractions.
- Information Centre: Located at the Wildlife Department Headquarters, providing maps, information, and assistance to visitors.
Features / Highlights
- World's Longest Canopy Walkway: Spanning an impressive 530 meters in length and suspended up to 40 meters above the forest floor, it offers an unparalleled aerial view of the ancient rainforest. This allows for a unique perspective on the diverse flora and fauna that inhabit the upper canopy.
- Stunning Panoramic Views: From the elevated platforms, visitors can enjoy breathtaking vistas of the undulating rainforest canopy, stretching to the horizon. On clear days, you might even catch a glimpse of Gunung Tahan, Peninsular Malaysia's highest peak.
- Treetop Perspective on Wildlife: While large mammals are rarely seen from the walkway due to noise, visitors have a better chance of spotting birds like hornbills, various monkey species (such as long-tailed macaques), and other smaller arboreal creatures that inhabit the treetops. Early mornings are often recommended for better wildlife spotting opportunities.
- Unique Eco-Adventure: The walkway is constructed with minimal environmental impact, using a suspension system tied to trees rather than nails. This sustainable approach allows for an intimate connection with nature while promoting responsible eco-tourism.
- Accessibility: The trail leading to the Canopy Walkway is generally well-maintained with boardwalks and stairs, making it accessible for a wide range of visitors, although some sections can be steep.
Promotions or Special Offers
Specific promotions for the Canopy Walkway itself are not commonly advertised to the public, as the entry fee is a standard rate set by the Wildlife Department. Currently, the fee for adults is RM5.00, and for children, it's RM3.00. However, it's worth noting that many local tour operators in Kuala Tahan and Jerantut offer packages that bundle the Canopy Walkway experience with other popular activities in Taman Negara, such as jungle trekking to Bukit Teresek, rapid shooting on the Tembeling River, and visits to Orang Asli settlements. These packages can sometimes offer better value, especially for those looking to experience multiple attractions. It is advisable to inquire with local tour agencies in advance or upon arrival in Kuala Tahan for any current bundled deals or seasonal offers that might be available.

Canopy Walkway Kuala Tahan National Park Reviews
It's okay. Cheap thrill walking through the trees. It didn't feel very long and didn't see any wildlife. The walk doesn't open until 9:00am so don't bother going too early like I did. Had to wait until about 9:20am for them to 'open shop' and use a blower on the walkway. The loud petrol blower is probably why I didn't see any wildlife 🤪
Sep 09, 2024 · Jesse TaylorGreat experience, nice view. Long walk and freshly feel of nature. But it can be packed if you come during the weekend. It is because they limit the amount of tourists to use this walk. Need to come early otherwise you will need to wait in a long queue.
Jun 22, 2024 · Hafizun MushtafaCrowded during the weekend and public holidays. Recommended to hike Terisek hill prior to canopy walk to avoid the crowd in canopy walk. Do come as early as you can.
Jul 17, 2024 · EL!nFaR!ZzaReally beautiful on the walk we even saw some monkeys. That being said the wait is 2-3 hours on weekends because they can only have a few people on at a time. You always have someone 10 meters behind you so you can't really enjoy the walk. If you are scared of heights or wobbly bridges skip this one. You can only take photos on the platform. My advice:Don't go on weekends or school holidays must consider ( Malaysian public holidays, Muslim holidays, Chinese holidays, Hindu Holidays, European, Asia and America's holidays)If you do go during one of these times go to the canopy walk right when it opens to be the first in line or around 2pm right before it closes. The walk only takes about 20 mins despite waiting for 2+ hours.
Jul 21, 2024 · Vanessa Small5 RM (05/24) have to be paid on top of the National Park entry fee of 1 RM and the photography fee of 5 RM.All of the above have to be obtained at the rangers office before entering the park! The canopy walk is reached by foot, the path is foolproof. You don't need.a.guidw to get there. At the highest point of the actual canopy walk you'll be 45 meters above ground. There are 7 bridges to cross and 6 platforms. We were there during the day, at around 2:30 pm and alone. It was magical and I highly recommend it!
