Carbon Reviews
We ordered the 8-course chef’s menu.First of all, I believe the staff should have worn gloves during plating. Seeing bare hands while handling the food didn’t feel very hygienic. On top of that, the plating presentation was messy and lacked refinement — not something you’d expect from a tasting menu experience. In terms of the food itself, the majority of the dishes were served cold, which significantly impacted the texture and overall taste. The serving flow was also inconsistent — sometimes dishes came out too quickly one after another, and other times we had to wait too long in between. This really disrupted the course experience.Personally, I don’t think a course menu should be served alongside à la carte orders. It caused the entire flow to fall apart, with poor pacing and sequence. The owner did explain that they had just changed to a new menu about a week ago, so some issues were expected, and they are still working on improving the service flow. He also took our feedback seriously and offered to redo the entire course for us, which we appreciated. However, we had already tried everything, and honestly didn’t feel like eating through the same menu again — so we declined. As for specific dishes:• One of the dishes I didn’t manage to photograph was the lamb skewer. While the meat quality was okay, it was over-charred — not the good kind of smokiness, but burnt to the point of bitterness. Even the seasoning on top was burnt, and the overall taste was just unpleasant.• The toast was served cold, which really affected its texture and flavor.• The octopus was tender and the sauce paired well, but again, it was cold when served.• The duck breast had a slight stale oil smell, although the accompanying vegetables were nicely done.• The fish course was disappointing — the skin was burnt to bitterness, and the side vegetables were also overly charred. We couldn’t bring ourselves to finish it.Thankfully, the dessert helped redeem the meal a little. The flavors and textures in the final course were well-balanced, and it felt like a proper finish — although by then, our expectations had already dropped.Overall, the concept shows potential, but the execution needs serious refinement — especially in food temperature, plating, and course timing. Hopefully things will improve with time.
Jun 06, 2025 · Evsa OonCarbon is a fitting name for a restaurant, and it really reflects the food they serve. Everything has that smoky, charcoal essence, and it works. The beef brisket was a standout. It had a rich, charred aroma you’d expect, but it wasn’t overpowering - the perfect balance of smokiness and tenderness. The aged duck breast might be one of the best I’ve had. It tasted a lot like Peking duck, with a great mix of crispy skin and juicy meat. Well done. The only downside is that the service could definitely use some work. The staff weren’t as attentive as they could be, and some didn’t seem too familiar with the menu or pricing. One thing that wasn’t a pleasant sight was seeing servers plating starters with their bare hands, not quite ideal. All in all, Carbon delivers flavours in a big way. If they tighten up the service, I think it could easily become my go-to spot.
May 24, 2025 · Carmen WWasn't terrible but nothing spectacular, small portions for the price. Looking forward given the reviews but probably all friends/family.Did the Rm180 set for 2 (Rm360++). Best was probably the mini slider. The fish and lamb were counted as 2 portions to be shared 😂 (lamb was the worst dish, rubbery and a cheap cut). 2 desserts came and it was also for sharing!!! No expensive ingredients so feedback to the restaurant is don't be cheap, if you say 10 course serve 10 dishes each!Ordered an alacarte furikake pasta that cost rm68++, barilla pasta cooked with lots of garlic and 3 large prawns, average at best.Gave 3 stars for service cuz our dirty plates with prawn heads were just in front of us for a good 15 mins, no one clearing up despite restaurant only having 3 tables. Food served was not spaced properly either.
Apr 06, 2025 · Calvin YewWe came here to celebrate our anniversary and had a fantastic lunch!Everything we ordered tasted delicious, including the house kombucha (lemon tea for our visit). We sat at the counter seats, so it was entertaining to see the grilling and the plating of the food. There are also table seats, and the dining area gives an elegant yet casual vibe. The service was excellent too! All in all, we really enjoyed our dining experience and we intend to visit again in the future. Thanks Carbon team!
