So, let’s take a closer look at what this particular block has to offer, giving you the insights you need as a local user.
For those who value flexibility, a SOHO concept like Empire City (Block M) can be appealing. It typically offers a compact yet functional living space that can double as a workspace. This modern approach to urban living often attracts young professionals or individuals seeking a minimalist lifestyle. However, it's essential to set realistic expectations regarding amenities and services, especially when compared to traditional residential apartments or hotels. By providing a transparent account, we hope to empower you with the knowledge to make the best choice for your lodging needs in Selangor.
---Empire City SOHO (Block M) is situated along the Lebuhraya Damansara - Puchong (LDP), 60000 Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. This location is a significant factor in its appeal, offering robust connectivity to various parts of the Klang Valley. The SOHO units are part of the larger Empire City development, a mixed-use complex that aims to integrate residential, commercial, and retail spaces.
For locals in Selangor, the direct access to the LDP is a major advantage. This highway serves as a crucial artery, connecting Petaling Jaya to key areas like Damansara Perdana, Bandar Utama, Puchong, and even further afield to Kepong and Sungai Buloh. This makes commuting relatively straightforward for those who rely on private vehicles. Beyond the LDP, Empire City also offers easy access to other major highways, including the Penchala Link and the DASH Highway (Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway) via nearby interchanges. This network of roads simplifies travel to areas like Mont Kiara, Shah Alam, and even Subang Jaya, making it a strategic base for individuals working or living across Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
While the LDP provides excellent vehicular access, public transportation options for direct access to Empire City can be a point of consideration. There isn't a direct MRT or LRT station within immediate walking distance. However, several stations are accessible via a short drive or feeder bus services. For instance, MRT Mutiara Damansara and Bandar Utama stations are relatively close, offering connections to the broader Klang Valley Integrated Transit System. Relying on ride-hailing services like Grab is also a common and convenient option for residents and guests, though some residents have noted that due to the complex's size and layout, Grab drivers might occasionally take a longer time to reach the exact location.
Within the Empire City vicinity itself, there are convenience stores like Bila-Bila Mart and 7-Eleven, which are easily accessible for daily necessities. The presence of a nearby mosque is also a convenience for Muslim residents. While the development is designed to be self-contained, its strategic location on the LDP ensures that residents have easy access to external amenities, shopping malls (like One Utama, The Curve, IPC Shopping Centre), and various F&B establishments in surrounding neighborhoods like Damansara Perdana and Mutiara Damansara. This balance of being well-connected yet somewhat self-sufficient within its immediate surroundings makes Empire City SOHO (Block M) an intriguing option for those who prioritize accessibility and convenience in Petaling Jaya.
---When considering lodging at Empire City SOHO (Block M), it's important to understand the scope of services typically offered, especially given its SOHO classification and the feedback from current residents. Unlike traditional serviced apartments or hotels, the services here are more aligned with a residential SOHO unit, with certain limitations to be aware of.
Services Offered (or commonly expected):
- Private SOHO Unit: Guests rent an individual SOHO unit, which functions as a self-contained living space, often comprising a studio or a 1-bedroom layout. This provides privacy and autonomy.
- Basic Utilities: Units typically come with standard utilities such as electricity and water. However, it's crucial to note, as residents highlighted, that electricity is charged at a commercial rate, leading to potentially higher monthly bills (averaging around RM300 for some residents).
- Air Conditioning: Each unit is equipped with air conditioning for comfort in Selangor's climate.
- Private Bathroom: Each SOHO unit includes a private bathroom, though some residents have noted issues with water pressure that might require checking before commitment.
- Security: The building has security guards, and residents generally report positive interactions with them, indicating a reasonable level of security.
- Waste Management: Trash collection is available, and while bins might occasionally get full, they are cleared relatively quickly.
- Loading Bay Access (Block M Specific): Block M is noted as being the only building in Empire City with direct loading bay access, which is a significant convenience for moving in or out, or for deliveries of larger items.
- Limited On-site Convenience: While there are convenience stores (Bila-Bila Mart / 7-Eleven) nearby within the Empire City complex, the overall "facilities" for residents within the block itself are described as minimal or "NONE" by some. This implies a lack of common amenities like gyms, pools, or dedicated recreational areas that might be found in other residential complexes.
- Management Support (for specific issues): Residents have indicated that the office staff is generally good at assisting with specific issues, though management rules (e.g., 3-day advance notice for work permits) can be cumbersome.
It's important for prospective renters or guests to clarify what specific inclusions come with their individual unit rental, as offerings can vary by owner or listing (e.g., furnished vs. unfurnished, internet provision).
---Empire City SOHO (Block M), while a unique lodging option, presents several distinct features and highlights that are important for potential residents or guests to consider. These points often emerge from the experiences of those who have lived or stayed there.
Features / Highlights:
- Loading Bay Access (Exclusive to Block M): This is a standout feature for Block M. It's reportedly the only building within Empire City with direct loading bay access, making moving in/out or receiving large deliveries significantly easier and more convenient compared to other blocks. This is a practical advantage for long-term residents.
- Aesthetically Pleasing Lobby (sometimes): While some reviews mention general cleanliness issues, the lobby area can sometimes be dirty, suggesting maintenance can be inconsistent, it can be aesthetically pleasing when well-maintained.
- Strategic Connectivity: The primary highlight is its excellent access to major highways (LDP, Penchala Link, DASH Highway). This offers fantastic convenience for individuals who commute by car to various parts of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
- Proximity to Basic Conveniences: The presence of convenience stores like Bila-Bila Mart and 7-Eleven within Empire City means quick access to daily essentials. A nearby mosque is also a highlight for Muslim residents.
- Competitive Rent (Potentially): Some residents have noted that the initial rent for units might be "cheap," making it an attractive entry point for those seeking affordable lodging in a prime location. However, this needs to be weighed against other costs.
- Generally Quiet Resident/Guest Vibe: Residents have mentioned that "Most residents or even airbnb guests are okay, no weird vibes so far." This suggests a relatively peaceful living environment in terms of neighborly interactions.
- Security Presence: The presence of security guards, who are generally perceived as "okay" and without issues, contributes to a sense of safety within the building.
- Good Management Staff (for assistance): While management rules can be frustrating, the staff in the office are acknowledged as "consider good in assisting" with various queries and processes.
It's equally important to acknowledge common points of concern based on resident feedback:
- Lack of Facilities: A significant point of feedback is the explicit mention of "No facilities obviously" or "Facalities: NONE." This means residents should not expect amenities like gyms, swimming pools, or communal recreational areas within the block.
- Parking Challenges: Parking is a recurring issue. It's "first come first serve, no resident parking," and season passes are limited to "only 1 car can be registered." The hourly rate (RM2/hour, max RM6/day) can add up, and the parking lot itself has been described as "dirty and scary sometimes."
- Poor Phone Reception: A critical concern, especially for work or daily communication, is "very very bad for phone calls" and "no phone service" on higher levels (e.g., Level 18). This can significantly impact connectivity.
- High Commercial Electricity Rates: Electricity bills are notably higher due to commercial rates, averaging RM300 per month for some, which negates the benefit of cheap rent.
- Inconsistent Water Pressure: Some units experience "pretty bad" water pressure, requiring potential renters to verify this before committing.
- Elevator Issues: There are frequent problems with elevators, with residents reporting "always have issues either you have 4 working lift or no lift working at all."
- Cumbersome Management Rules: Rules like requiring 3 days advance notice for any work permit (e.g., for WiFi setup) are seen as "stupid" and impractical.

---Empire City SOHO (Block M) presents a unique lodging proposition for locals in Selangor, particularly for those who prioritize specific aspects of urban living and are willing to navigate certain challenges. For us Selangorians, especially those working in or around Petaling Jaya, its primary appeal lies in its strategic location with excellent highway accessibility. Direct access to the LDP, Penchala Link, and DASH Highway means that commuting to various parts of the Klang Valley is highly efficient, a crucial factor for many working professionals.
If you're an individual or a couple seeking a compact, private SOHO unit that offers a flexible living and working space, and you value being well-connected by road, Block M could be a contender. The reported "cheap rent" can be an initial draw, making it seem like an affordable entry point into a prime Petaling Jaya address. Furthermore, the exclusive loading bay access for Block M is a significant practical advantage if you anticipate frequent moves or large deliveries, a benefit not found in other Empire City blocks.
However, it’s vital for locals to enter with eyes wide open and a clear understanding of the trade-offs. The feedback from residents highlights key considerations: the absence of common facilities (no gym, pool, etc.), the high commercial electricity rates which can significantly inflate monthly costs, and the notable challenges with phone reception and parking. These are critical daily living factors that could impact your overall satisfaction. While security guards are generally seen as okay and some management staff are helpful, issues with elevator reliability and certain "stupid rules" can also contribute to frustration.
In essence, Empire City SOHO (Block M) is most suitable for Selangor locals who are primarily looking for a private, well-connected SOHO unit for short-term or flexible stays, who are less reliant on in-building facilities, and who are prepared for potentially higher utility bills and parking complexities. It's a place that offers convenience in terms of location and private space, but it requires a careful assessment of personal priorities against the reported challenges. For those who understand and accept these nuances, it can serve as a functional base in Petaling Jaya.

Empire city Soho (Block M) Reviews
I was told this is the only building with loading bay access compare to other sohos in empire city. So if you consider to rent in empire city, this building should be a better choice.Im not happy with the parking where its based on first come first serve, no resident parking, u have to apply for season pass and only 1 car can be registered. The line here is very very bad for phone calls. And management makes stupid rules, need to apply any work permit 3 days in advance which some companies like setting up wifi etc very hard to communicate to have their details for me to apply. But the staffs in the office consider good in assisting. No facilities obviously. So far parking is clean, sometimes the trash get full but they clear up pretty fast.Security guards are okay. No issue with them so far.Water pressure in my unit is pretty bad. Make sure to check yours before renting. Most residents or even airbnb guests are okay, no weird vibes so far for me.Electric bill is quite high since its commercial properties.
Jun 17, 2025 · Anis HassanFor those who want to experience renting at this place, please think twice. We have been renting for over a year. My honest feedback tho the rent is cheap but other charges are more.Parking rate per hour : RM 2 per hour (Max RM 6 per day)Moving in/out fee depo : RM 300 (Request 3 days before moving in/out day)Facalities : NONENearest convenience store : Bila - Bila Mart / 7EMore context on a personal view: Management sucks, they have miscalculated our water bill, Electricity charges are based on commercial rate and average of 300MYR per month. Elevator always have issues either you have 4 working lift or no lift working at all. Some guards are okay but some of not, they are rude and obnoxious. Parking lot is dirty and scary sometimes even the lobby area sometimes are dirty as well. Please also remember that if you rent here you will not get any parking spots. First come first serve. My level which is 18, there is no phone service. Ordering grab will be difficult at times due to the location sometimes they might took a lot of time to reach.Pros :- Masjid is nearby- Easy access to TTDI / Dash highway / LDP / Penchala link
Feb 13, 2025 · Albukhary Amir HamzahI dont understand why does one unit have only 1 parking season pass for tenant or owner you expect us to only have 1 car? Hey we do paid for the parking is not for free and went to the management to make 1 more season pass parking for my second car they said cant
Jun 09, 2025 · Kevin ChoeVery hard to locate this place. I stayed here for Airbnb but ALL the grab drivers got lost. They can’t find the pickup and drop off point. The side door closes at 9pm and the security demands that you walk down a dark path to find the entrance to B2.
Jun 09, 2025 · Bernard LimI booked a unit here to stay for 3 days 2 nights. First impression is I thought I went to a wrong place initially as it appears like some of the buildings around still under renovation. Then finding the parking place is a bit hard as well and after looking for a while I finally managed to find the parking lot for block M. Even though some parts of the area is still under renovation but the parking lot feels a bit old already.Next, the unit I rented is at the 26th floor. Initial impression was okay but as I look more into it I start to notice a lot of the stuff inside the unit is also already semi worn down. Some of the stuff like lining for the floor or cabinet already coming off. The bathroom is quite small too. Quite surprised with the condition is not as decent as I expect. The surprise is actually the small food court located at the ground floor, beside the Bila-Bila mart (which is also nice imho). The pan mee stall is nice and I tried the fried Chee cheong fun. It has the wok hei and very nice. All in all, kinda below my expectation. Only reason why I took this place is because it is big enough to fit large family member size (eg 6 pax). Not really recommended if you plan to book this place for homestay.
