Kompleks Gua Ikan is strategically located in Kuala Gris, 18200 Dabong, Kelantan, Malaysia. This prime location places it amidst the verdant landscapes that characterize this part of our state. For those of us driving, navigating to Dabong is relatively straightforward, but it's important to be aware of the local conditions. As some of our fellow Kelantanese have noted, internet connectivity in the immediate area around the cave can be limited. This means that relying solely on navigation apps like Waze or Google Maps might not always be the most reliable option once you get closer to the destination.
To ensure a smooth and stress-free journey, we highly recommend considering hiring a local tour guide. Not only do they possess invaluable knowledge of the area, but their familiarity with the local roads and conditions can significantly enhance your experience, especially if you're new to exploring this part of Kelantan. A local guide can help you bypass any navigation challenges and lead you directly to the entrance of Kompleks Gua Ikan, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the adventure without worrying about getting lost. Plus, as you’ll discover, their insights into the cave’s history and features are truly priceless.
While Kompleks Gua Ikan is primarily a natural attraction, it offers an experience that is enhanced by certain services and considerations to ensure a comfortable and informative visit.
- Guided Tours: Although not explicitly stated as an official service provided by the complex itself, hiring a local tour guide is highly recommended by those who have visited. These guides offer invaluable insights into the cave's age, formation, and unique features, enriching your exploration with fascinating facts and stories. They can also help navigate the area, especially where internet connectivity is limited.
- Basic Illumination: The cave is equipped with a few strategically placed lights. While not fully lit like some commercialized caves, there's enough illumination to safely explore the interior and appreciate its formations without needing your own strong light source.
- Clearly Defined Pathways: The paths within Gua Ikan are well-defined, making it accessible for casual walkers. You won't need specialized trekking gear; comfortable walking shoes are sufficient.
- River Crossing Point: Despite a small river needing to be crossed, a proper crossing point is available, ensuring you won't get wet during your exploration.
Kompleks Gua Ikan is brimming with natural wonders and intriguing aspects that make it a truly memorable visit for anyone from Kelantan looking to connect with nature.
- The Iconic "Fish Cave" Formation: The cave earns its name, Gua Ikan (Fish Cave), from a remarkable limestone formation inside that, when viewed from a specific angle, strikingly resembles a fish. This unique geological feature is a definite highlight and a popular point of interest for visitors.
- Active Stalactite and Stalagmite Growth: One of the most fascinating aspects of Gua Ikan is that its stalactites and stalagmites are still actively growing. This signifies that the cave is a living, evolving geological system, offering a tangible connection to the planet's continuous natural processes.
- Moderate Exploration Experience: The cave is not overwhelmingly large, typically allowing for a comfortable exploration time of about 45 minutes to an hour. This makes it an ideal spot for a leisurely visit without requiring extensive physical exertion.

Kompleks Gua Ikan (Dabong, Kelantan) Reviews
During our short vacation in Dabong, my wife and I decided to explore Kompleks Gua Ikan, one of the area's natural attractions. This was our first stop, and we highly recommend hiring a local tour guide. The area has limited internet connectivity, so navigation apps like Waze or Google Maps may not work, and having a guide ensures a smoother experience. Our guide provided fascinating insights into the age and formation of the cave, explaining how it has developed over thousands of years. The highlight was learning how Gua Ikan (Fish Cave) got its name—a limestone formation resembling a fish, which can only be seen from a specific angle. It was interesting to see how the stalactites and stalagmites are still actively growing, meaning the cave is still evolving.Unlike some other caves, Gua Ikan is not completely dark—there are a few strategically placed lights, just enough to illuminate the interior. The cave isn't particularly large, and we spent about 45 minutes to an hour exploring it. No special trekking gear was required, just comfortable walking shoes. While there’s a small river to cross, a proper crossing point ensures you won’t get wet.Overall, this cave is a decent place to visit if you’re in Dabong, but the best part was having an engaging tour guide who shared the history and science of the cave in an interesting way. Bonus: Our guide spoke fluent English, but since all of us are locals we decided to use Bahasa.
Mar 21, 2025 · FakhruddinDuring my recent visit to Kelantan, I had the opportunity to explore Gua Ikan, a fascinating limestone cave with stunning natural beauty. The cave is named after a fish-shaped rock formation at the entrance, which adds a unique charm to the experience. Inside, the cave features impressive stalactites and stalagmites, with some sections leading to narrow passages and larger chambers. The surrounding area is lush and peaceful, making it a great spot for nature lovers and adventurers alike. The quiet, almost mystical atmosphere of Gua Ikan makes it a hidden gem for those seeking a bit of exploration in Kelantan.
Sep 17, 2024 · Fazri HussainEntrance fee rm2 for adults. If you are from Gua Musang going to Kota Bharu then should visit this cave. No need torch light or hiking stick. Suitable for all ages.
Oct 01, 2024 · Winnie KLHere in Gua Ikan, it offers three other attractions for those seeking an extra adventure.I recently explored the three caves: Gua Keris, Gua Pagar, and Gua Gelap. The trail is rated as easy to moderate due to its steep inclines and rocky paths, and some areas require climbing a ladder. All three caves are accessible via one trail, starting with Gua Pagar, followed by Gua Keris, and ending with Gua Gelap.Gua Gelap was particularly interesting, with a hollow section that required us to lie down to navigate through it. It was quite a fun challenge!Gua Keris is a must-see! It is much bigger than the other two caves and offers a panoramic view of the cave and features a stunning godlight if you arrive around 10:30 AM. Hence, plan your visit accordingly to catch the beautiful godlight. For the entire journey, it is required to bring your own headlamp for navigating the darker areas.Overall, the scenery throughout the journey is breathtaking. It’s truly perfect for caving and hiking lovers. The experience was totally worth the time and very enjoyable.
