---Lantern Hotel boasts an incredibly central and accessible location in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Its address is **38, Jalan Petaling, City Centre, 50000 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia**. This places it directly on Jalan Petaling, the iconic street famous for its vibrant market, diverse street food, and rich cultural heritage in Chinatown.
Being situated right on Jalan Petaling means guests are immediately immersed in the lively and authentic atmosphere of Kuala Lumpur's Chinatown. The "City Centre" designation further emphasizes its prime positioning, ensuring easy access to other major landmarks, commercial districts, and entertainment hubs within Kuala Lumpur.
Accessibility is a significant advantage for Lantern Hotel. It is exceptionally well-connected by Kuala Lumpur's extensive public transportation network. Guests are typically within a very short walking distance to several major public transport hubs. These include the **Pasar Seni MRT/LRT Station**, which offers seamless connections on both the Kelana Jaya LRT Line and the Kajang MRT Line, providing direct access to areas like KLCC, Bukit Bintang, KL Sentral, and further afield. The **Masjid Jamek LRT Station** is also within reasonable walking distance, connecting to the Ampang/Sri Petaling LRT Lines.
This excellent connectivity means that exploring Kuala Lumpur is incredibly convenient. Many of the city's popular attractions are either within walking distance or just a short train ride away. These include Central Market, Sri Mahamariamman Temple, Guan Di Temple, Sultan Abdul Samad Building, and Merdeka Square. For those who prefer ride-hailing services, they are readily available and can easily connect guests to any part of the city. The hotel's central location on Jalan Petaling also means that a plethora of local eateries, cafes, and shops are right at its doorstep, offering a truly immersive urban experience.
---Based on the provided customer reviews, Lantern Hotel appears to offer a very basic, no-frills lodging experience. While a full list of standard hotel services would ideally be confirmed directly with the establishment, here's what the reviews suggest is available or notably absent:
- Basic Room Accommodation: Provides rooms for sleeping, with options likely including single beds. A reviewer mentioned a "single bed room."
- Affordable Pricing: The hotel is positioned as a budget option, with a reviewer indicating it's of "same price value" as other budget hotels, suggesting competitive rates for its location.
- Reception Services: There is a reception lobby where guests can check-in, check-out, and potentially seek assistance.
- Wi-Fi Access (Limited/Inconsistent): While free Wi-Fi is mentioned in booking, a significant issue highlighted by a reviewer is that it's only available in the lobby, requiring guests "to go to reception lobby EVERY TIME U NEED TO GET CONNECTED TO INTERNET." Furthermore, its functionality is questionable, implying it might be unreliable.
- No Electric Kettle in Rooms: A specific complaint from a reviewer is the absence of an "electric kettle" in the rooms, meaning hot beverages cannot be made privately.
- No TV in Rooms: Rooms do not come with televisions, as explicitly stated by a reviewer.
- Limited Breakfast Service: While breakfast was possibly offered at one point (alfresco seats in level 2), a reviewer indicated it had stopped, with the staff citing holiday leave as a reason. This suggests inconsistent or suspended food services.
- Staff Interaction: Customer service experience may vary, with previous positive mentions of "Ms Dayah at reception" contrasting with more recent negative comments about "manning of staffs" and general service quality.
- Elevator/Lift Issues: The lift was reported as "not working and under maintenance," requiring guests to use stairs.
It is crucial for potential guests to set realistic expectations. This hotel appears to cater to those who prioritize a very basic, low-cost stay in a prime location and are willing to compromise on in-room amenities and consistent service quality.
---Lantern Hotel's main features and highlights are predominantly its location and price point, while significant downsides are also present:
- Unbeatable Central Location in Chinatown: This is by far the strongest selling point. Situated on **Jalan Petaling**, guests have immediate access to the vibrant street market, diverse food stalls, cultural landmarks, and the energetic atmosphere of one of KL's most famous districts.
- Excellent Public Transport Connectivity: Its prime location ensures easy walking access to major LRT and MRT stations (like Pasar Seni), providing superb connectivity to all key attractions and business hubs in Kuala Lumpur.
- Affordable Price Point: The hotel offers a very budget-friendly option for those seeking a stay in the city center, which can be appealing for backpackers or cost-conscious travelers.
- Proximity to Local Eateries & Cafes: Being in Chinatown means a vast array of local food options are just steps away, allowing guests to easily explore authentic Malaysian cuisine.
Significant Downsides (as reported in reviews):
- Lack of In-Room Amenities: No electric kettles or TVs in rooms, which are standard in many budget hotels.
- Poor Wi-Fi Connectivity: Wi-Fi is reportedly only available in the lobby and often not working, making internet access very inconvenient.
- Noise Issues: Guests reported significant noise from adjacent rooms and corridors, impacting sleep quality ("banging loudly," "talking on top of their voices," "can hardly sleep").
- Cleanliness and Pest Concerns: Reports of "rats and insect going around the building" and "Bedsheets wasn’t that clean" are serious red flags regarding hygiene.
- Maintenance Issues: The elevator/lift was "not working and under maintenance," forcing guests to use stairs, which is a major inconvenience, especially for those with luggage.
- Inconsistent Staffing and Service Quality: Reviews indicate a decline in service compared to previous years and issues with staff behavior and policy communication (e.g., "abandoned property," "Staff behaviour is very bad," "towel gets stained, you have to pay 20").
- "Haunted and 1-star hotel" sentiment: One review described the building as "eerie" and felt "haunted," alongside a "1 star hotel" rating, indicating a generally poor perception of the property's ambiance and quality.
These significant drawbacks should be carefully considered by any potential guest. The hotel appears to be suitable only for those who are extremely budget-conscious, prioritize location above all else, and are prepared to tolerate substantial discomforts and inconveniences.

Lantern Hotel Reviews
Paid for 3D2N here but decided to check out the next morning as I booked another hotel of same price value BUT with better facilities. All rooms doesn't have electric kettle and the free wifi stayed in your booking, keep in mind u have to go to reception lobby EVERY TIME U NEED TO GET CONNECTED TO INTERNET.During my night , next door room was banging loudly on their doors and talking on top of their voices and it was past midnight hours, I can hardly sleep. Glad I was able to book another room in a hotel near Berjaya Times Square.Hotel owner/Manager need to look into manning of staffs. I was here in 2017, this hotel was a lot better then, Ms Dayah at reception handled it all very well, unlike now this place is just like an abandoned property. Lift/elevator was not working and under maintenance so had to climb flight of stairs . Thank goodness I have no luggage just 🎒. Please avoid if U want a comfortable place to sleep/rest.Breakfast for guests at their alfresco seats in level 2 has stopped because the Nepalese staff told me since it's CNY holidays all his other Nepalese friends went on leave. If you need a coffee to start your day before a long list of itinerary to begin with, just order food Panda to be sent to hotel. Unless you can wait till you are all showered and ready to go grab your own coffee at the cafes nearby.I prefer at least to have an electric kettle in the room as i packed my tea sachets from home.Bear in mind room doesn't have a TV.
Feb 01, 2025 · Milky _Way SkyHaunted and 1 star hotel. The building is eerie and I feel I am the only one staying.here. Rats and insect going around the building The website doesn't represent the real things
Jan 28, 2025 · Reviewer 99Chic, Minimalist Hotel in Chinatown, KL.Only Negative - Elevator doesn't function, but there are only 3 floors, wouldn't recommend to seniors or anyone with knee problems - unless you're up for a challenge.Positive - Very clean room, bathroom, sheets, floor, windows. Staff was very helpful and accommodating at all times. Smack in the middle of Chinatown.Tips: Bring your own drinking water, there's none provided. Bring an iPad as there's no Tele for entertainment in the room.Lesson learnt: Don't blindly trust reviews!
Jul 28, 2024 · Mc GMy partner and i stayed in this hotel for a day the experiance is boringBE AWARE the 2nd floor lobby toilet door is broken.I didn't dare to use it due to afraid someone coming in!
Jan 23, 2025 · Cute PopularQuite a decent place to stay. Location is great at the center of Petaling Street. Wasn’t expecting much for the rate but pleasantly surprised by the simple, clean and modern chic looking room. No problem with facilities or water (strong). The minor issue is the locked door due their intercom system not working well currently. The manager mentioned that it should be fixed end of Oct. But I asked the hp from the staff (Bir) and call him to open whenever I need to go out or come back. There are staffs stationed there 24/7 at upper floor so he responds instantly each time I call him. Overall, its a bargain stay especially with price, modern chic design and great hangout space at the balcony deck above Petaling street.
