Jalan Penjara Kajang is a well-known road, and Sungai Jelok is a recognizable area within Kajang. This strategic positioning makes Restoran Tanjung relatively easy to locate for residents in Kajang and the surrounding districts of Selangor. It's nestled in a mature area, implying good local familiarity and accessibility.
For those driving, the location along Jalan Penjara Kajang suggests that parking might be available on the roadside or in designated parking bays within the vicinity. Kajang itself is a bustling hub in Selangor, well-connected by major expressways and arterial roads, including the Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway (SILK) and the Cheras-Kajang Expressway (CKE). This makes it convenient for customers coming from various parts of Selangor, such as Cheras, Bangi, or Semenyih, to reach the restaurant. Additionally, Kajang is well-served by public transportation, including the MRT and KTM lines. While the restaurant might not be directly at a station, a short ride-hailing trip (e.g., Grab) from the nearest MRT or KTM station in Kajang would easily connect commuters to Restoran Tanjung. This blend of road accessibility and proximity to public transport routes ensures that a visit to Restoran Tanjung is convenient for a wide range of locals in Selangor looking for a delicious meal.
Restoran Tanjung operates as a traditional Malaysian local eatery, primarily focusing on providing a wholesome and varied dining experience. Based on customer reviews, here are the key services offered:
Self-Service Dining (Nasi Campur Style): The restaurant provides "Many dishes" in a self-service format. This indicates a "nasi campur" or buffet-style setup, where customers can choose from a wide array of pre-cooked Malay dishes laid out, allowing for quick selection and a personalized plate. This is a highly popular and convenient dining style in Malaysia.
Wide Variety of Dishes: A significant highlight is the "plenty of choices" available. This suggests a diverse menu that likely includes various curries, stir-fries, fried items (ikan goreng, ayam goreng), vegetables, and perhaps specialty dishes, catering to different preferences and ensuring there's something new to try on each visit.
Dine-in Experience: As a physical restaurant, the primary service is for customers to dine on-site, enjoying the meal in the restaurant's ambiance. While not explicitly mentioned, typical local restaurants would offer basic seating arrangements.
Takeaway Service: Given the self-service nature, takeaway is almost certainly an option, allowing customers to pack their chosen dishes to enjoy at home or elsewhere, catering to busy individuals or those preferring to eat off-site.
Focus on Taste and Quality: Despite some comments on pricing, the general consensus is that "Food is nice," indicating a consistent quality and appealing taste profile across their offerings, which is crucial for retaining local patronage.
While the review points out a desire for itemized billing (N, L, A breakdown), which is a suggestion for service improvement, the core service model revolves around providing a broad selection of tasty Malay dishes in an efficient, self-serve manner.
Restoran Tanjung stands out in the Kajang culinary scene due to several key features and highlights that attract its local clientele.
Extensive Variety of Dishes: A primary highlight is the sheer "plenty of choices" available. This is a significant draw for customers who appreciate having a wide array of freshly prepared Malay dishes to select from, catering to different tastes and cravings on any given day. This self-service "nasi campur" style ensures there's always something new to try.
Good Quality Food: Despite a perception of being on the "high side" for pricing, the consistent feedback indicates that the "Food is nice." This points to a commitment to taste and quality ingredients, ensuring that customers find their meals satisfying and enjoyable.
Self-Service Convenience: The self-service model, where "Many dishes were provided, self-service," offers speed and convenience, particularly for lunch crowds or those in a hurry. Customers can quickly pick their desired dishes without waiting for individual orders to be taken and prepared.
Authentic Malay Cuisine: Given the context of a local "restoran" in Selangor offering "plenty of choices" and operating a self-service model, it strongly suggests a focus on traditional and authentic Malay dishes. This appeals to locals seeking genuine home-style cooking.
Quick Service & Efficiency: While not directly stated, the self-service model inherently promotes quick service. The customer's comment about wanting a breakdown "especially if you're in a hurry" further implies that the overall process is designed to be efficient for busy patrons.
Local Community Staple: As a well-known local eatery, Restoran Tanjung is likely a familiar and trusted spot for residents in Kajang and Sungai Jelok. Its consistent offerings and local presence make it a staple for daily meals.
These features collectively contribute to Restoran Tanjung being a popular choice for locals in Selangor, offering a convenient, varied, and satisfying dining experience, even with discussions around its pricing.
For a traditional local restaurant like Restoran Tanjung, especially one operating on a self-service or "nasi campur" model, formal "promotions" in the sense of discount codes or advertised special deals are less common compared to large chain restaurants. The value proposition often lies in the quality, variety, and convenience of the food itself, rather than temporary price reductions.
However, based on the nature of such establishments, "special offers" might manifest in more subtle ways or through inherent value:
Daily Changing Menu: The "plenty of choices" implies that the dishes might rotate daily or seasonally. While not a discount, this continuous variety acts as a draw, offering new culinary experiences to regular patrons and keeping the menu fresh and exciting. Locals often appreciate this element of surprise and choice.
Bulk Pricing (Implied): While a customer noted the price was "on the high side" for their RM16 lunch, this might also reflect the quantity and variety chosen in a self-service setting. Some customers might find that for a substantial, varied meal, the overall price still offers good value compared to a la carte options elsewhere, especially if they are selective with their portions.
Set Meal Options (Speculative): Though not mentioned, some nasi campur eateries might offer fixed-price set meals with a predetermined selection of rice, one or two main dishes, and a vegetable, which can provide a clear value point for customers.
Loyalty Through Consistency: For many local eateries, the "promotion" is the consistent delivery of "nice food" and reliability. Locals will return because they know what to expect and trust the quality, making consistency a key driver of repeat business.
Catering for Events (Potentially): Depending on their capacity, Restoran Tanjung might offer catering services for local events, office lunches, or family gatherings, providing their popular dishes in bulk quantities. This would be a specialized "offer" for larger groups.
Given the customer's comment about the bill only showing a total, it's clear that price transparency could be an area for improvement. However, the consistent quality and wide selection of dishes are strong draws that intrinsically promote the restaurant to its loyal local clientele. For any direct inquiries about their pricing structure or potential offerings, it's always best to contact Restoran Tanjung directly.

Restoran Tanjung Reviews
Food is nice, plenty of choices. But I feel the price is on the high side. I paid RM16 for my lunch here, judge for yourself.
May 20, 2025 · MD najibMany dishes were provided, self-service.But what I didn’t quite like was that the worker only wrote the total amount, possibly because of reviews saying it was expensive. It should have been broken down to make it easier (especially if you're in a hurry), for example:N 2 (nasi),L 5 (lauk),A 3 (air),======RM10
May 26, 2025 · A YAs someone mentioned before. They charged your plate differ from others. When you first come here, they will charge you cheap. Later after you're regular , they will extort your wallet. The perk is you get variety dish to choose but taste just average. And cramped space when noon. Hard to parking. Safety concerns when traffic as restaurants in sharp corner. Was regular here, but with price hike vs taste. I rather find another restaurant. Why i should stay when the price is almost same as others but definitely better than here?
Mar 09, 2023 · Yuu KyuI must say this Kajang's answer to Soto@Shah Alam, Cili Hijau@Penchala, Cantik@Bangi.. Tanjung has lots of selection as those three and unique menu.. Its price is very reasonable and 'marhaen'.. I took kambing masak lemak, ayam merah, ulam, acar sayur and teh o ais limau.. Only rm13.. Must be the cheapest amongst the four.. Service is commendable and quick.. Staff over here don't waste time taking order for drinks.. Place is spacious.. And the most important of 'em all is delicious.. If I'm around here, definitely gonna come here for lunch.. Atmosphere is 4 stars because the parking here can be troublesome given the location of the restaurant is at the junction.. Keep it up dan selamat maju jaya!
