Surau Nur Syukri, nestled within Kampung Batu 14, offers just that – a remarkably "homey vibe" and a surprisingly "spacious surau that has everything inside," as remarked by appreciative visitors. Despite its slightly tucked-away location, this surau has firmly established itself as a vital spiritual and community hub for residents, especially those within the qariah (parish) of Felcra Semungkis. It's not just a place for prayer; it's a living, breathing testament to community spirit and continuous improvement.
As local users in Selangor, we value places that are not only accessible for our daily spiritual needs but also contribute meaningfully to the fabric of our neighborhoods. Surau Nur Syukri perfectly embodies this, drawing congregants with its warm atmosphere and commendable range of activities, from religious lectures (ceramah) to communal Iftar gatherings. The commitment to consistent improvement, evident in the "difference and lot of changes to the interior and exterior" over the years, speaks volumes about the dedication of its management and the active participation of its community. This article aims to explore Surau Nur Syukri in detail, highlighting its unique charm, services, and why it is such a suitable and cherished spot for us, the locals of Hulu Langat.
Surau Nur Syukri is located at Unnamed Road, Kampung Batu 14, 43100 Hulu Langat, Selangor, Malaysia. While the address might seem a bit vague with "Unnamed Road," local knowledge is key here. As one reviewer aptly puts it, "the place is quite cerok inside but it is inside the qariah Felcra Semungkis." This means that while it's not prominently situated right beside a main road, it is well-known and deeply embedded within the community of Felcra Semungkis and Kampung Batu 14. For those familiar with the area, finding this "hidden gem" is part of its charm and local identity.
Accessibility for locals in Hulu Langat is primarily via private vehicles – cars or motorcycles – as is common in many kampung areas. The internal road network within Felcra Semungkis would lead directly to the surau, making it straightforward for residents. Public transportation options might be limited directly to its doorstep, but local bus routes that serve Kampung Batu 14 would likely drop congregants within a reasonable distance, from which a short walk or a local ride could be taken. The fact that families have been coming "for many years" despite its 'cerok' location strongly indicates that its accessibility within the immediate local context is more than adequate, and its community value outweighs any minor navigational challenges for new visitors. For those living within the qariah, it is conveniently nestled right where they need it.
Surau Nur Syukri, despite being a "small village mosque" or surau, offers a remarkably comprehensive array of services, going beyond just daily prayers. The reviews highlight several key activities, indicating a vibrant and active community hub. - Iftar Gatherings: "Iftar" is specifically mentioned, indicating that during Ramadan, the surau organizes communal breaking of fast, fostering immense unity and fellowship among the community members.
- Quranic Classes/Study Circles: While not explicitly stated, it's highly likely that a surau with such active "activities" would also facilitate Quranic recitation classes or basic Islamic studies for children and possibly adults.
- Community Activities: The vision of the "qariah will make it as community center run many activities in the future" points towards existing and future community-centric events beyond just prayers, promoting social interaction and welfare.
- Janazah (Funeral) Services: As a community surau, it would typically assist with funeral prayers (Solat Jenazah) for deceased members of the qariah.
- Spiritual Guidance: The "homey vibe" suggests a welcoming environment where congregants can seek informal spiritual advice or support from the surau management or knowledgeable community members.
Surau Nur Syukri stands out not just as a place of worship but as a vibrant community asset in Hulu Langat. Its features and highlights are vividly painted by the local reviews, suggesting a place that truly resonates with its congregants. Here are some of its key features and highlights:

This also allows for various activities to be conducted simultaneously or within dedicated areas.
- Comprehensive Facilities ("have everything inside"): This implies that despite its location, the surau is well-equipped with the necessary amenities and possibly more, which is "quite surprising to say the least." This might include good ablution areas, separate prayer spaces for men and women, perhaps even small classrooms or a community hall, making it a truly self-sufficient hub.

For a local religious institution like Surau Nur Syukri, "promotions" and "special offers" are not typically framed in a commercial sense. Instead, the surau continuously "promotes" its invaluable spiritual, educational, and communal offerings to its congregants and the wider Muslim community in Hulu Langat. These are ongoing invitations and opportunities designed to foster spiritual growth and strengthen community bonds. While you won't find discounts or sales, here’s how Surau Nur Syukri likely "promotes" its activities and benefits:
- Open Invitation to All Prayers: The most consistent and fundamental "promotion" is the standing invitation for all Muslims to join the five daily congregational prayers and, notably, the weekly Friday prayers. This is an open door for spiritual connection and community participation.
- Regular Religious Programs Announcements: The surau actively promotes its "ceramah" (religious lectures) through internal notice boards, word-of-mouth within the Felcra Semungkis qariah, and potentially through local community messaging groups. These announcements highlight opportunities for learning and spiritual reflection.
- Special Ramadan Program Schedules: During the holy month of Ramadan, the surau heavily "promotes" its nightly Tarawih prayers, communal Iftar (breaking fast) gatherings, and possibly pre-dawn meals (sahur) for those observing i'tikaf. These events are crucial for community bonding and spiritual rejuvenation.
- Eid Prayer Timings: Invitations and timings for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha prayers are clearly communicated to ensure the entire community can partake in these significant celebrations together.
- Community Welfare and Fundraising Appeals: Opportunities to contribute to the surau's continuous improvement (as evidenced by interior and exterior changes), as well as appeals for Zakat collection and distribution or other charitable initiatives, are "promoted" to encourage community involvement and Sadaqah (charity).
- Special Event Notifications: For unique events such as "talqin" sessions (which might be part of specific funeral rites or educational programs) or other community-driven activities, the surau would ensure the local community is well-informed.
- Encouragement for Volunteerism: While not always explicitly advertised, the active nature of the surau suggests it "promotes" opportunities for community members to volunteer their time and skills, fostering a sense of ownership and collective responsibility.
These are the invaluable "offers" of spiritual and communal benefit that Surau Nur Syukri consistently provides to its dedicated local community.
