The Dinosaur Encounter is situated within the expansive premises of Pusat Sains Negara, located at Pusat Sains Negara, Bukit Damansara, 50490 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This prime location in the green and affluent area of Bukit Damansara makes it a prominent landmark and relatively accessible for residents across Kuala Lumpur.
Getting to the Dinosaur Encounter (and Pusat Sains Negara) is quite manageable, with several transportation options available:
- By Car: Driving is a popular choice for many families in Kuala Lumpur. The centre is easily navigable via GPS, and visitors often find ample parking available within the Pusat Sains Negara complex. However, it's worth noting that on busy school holidays, parking might require walking a bit, as one reviewer mentioned parking "on the other side of the main road." Arriving earlier in the day is advisable during peak periods to secure closer parking.
- By Ride-Sharing Services: Services like Grab are widely available throughout Kuala Lumpur and offer a convenient and direct way to reach the main entrance of Pusat Sains Negara, from where the Dinosaur Encounter area is easily accessible.
- By Public Transport: While there isn't a direct LRT or MRT station at the doorstep, the science centre is reachable by combining train and bus or a short taxi ride. The nearest MRT stations are typically Pusat Bandar Damansara or Phileo Damansara. From these stations, visitors can take a short taxi, ride-share, or connect to a local bus service that operates in the Bukit Kiara area. Public bus routes also pass by the vicinity of Pusat Sains Negara, providing an alternative for those using public transport.
The location offers a pleasant environment away from the city's immediate hustle, ensuring a more relaxed and enjoyable visit, while still being conveniently within Kuala Lumpur's city limits.
The Dinosaur Encounter, as an integral part of Pusat Sains Negara, benefits from and offers a range of services designed to enhance the visitor's experience, focusing on education, interaction, and comfort.
- Interactive Dinosaur Exhibits: The primary service is the display of various dinosaur replicas, allowing visitors to visualize and learn about these ancient creatures. These are placed along a "prehistoric trail," offering an immersive journey.
- Access to Main Science Centre Exhibits: A ticket to Pusat Sains Negara grants access to the Dinosaur Encounter, but more importantly, it includes entry to the vast array of interactive science exhibits covering topics like IT, marine life, forests, and more. This provides a holistic educational experience.
- Hands-On Activities: The centre emphasizes hands-on learning, with numerous experiments and machines that visitors can interact with. This encourages active participation and makes scientific concepts more tangible and enjoyable, particularly for children who "love experimenting and be creative in the machine world."
- Live Experiment Sessions: Engaging live science shows and experiment sessions are conducted daily, often twice (at 11 AM and 3 PM). These presentations are designed to "attract the audience's attention" and explain scientific phenomena in an exciting manner.
- OBSKURA (Virtual Reality Section): For an added immersive experience, OBSKURA offers a virtual reality section that transports visitors to different environments. This requires an additional ticket but provides a cutting-edge educational service.
- Online Booking System: To manage visitor flow and enhance convenience, the centre utilizes an online booking system for slots, requiring visitors to book in advance. This ensures a smoother entry process and helps reduce queues.
- Wading Pool/Playground Area: For younger visitors, a playground area with a wading pool is available. This offers a chance for children to "splash after a long day doing science," providing a recreational outlet.
- Clean Facilities: The centre provides clean restroom facilities for visitor comfort throughout their visit.
These services collectively aim to provide a comprehensive, educational, and entertaining experience for all who visit.
The Dinosaur Encounter, as part of Pusat Sains Negara, boasts numerous features and highlights that make it a compelling destination for a family day out in Kuala Lumpur.
- Engaging Dinosaur Replicas: The core appeal of the "Dinosaur Encounter" lies in its collection of dinosaur replicas. While a reviewer mentioned that the T-Rex might be gone and the "prehistoric trail doesn't seem to look good" in parts, the presence of these life-sized models remains a significant draw for children and dinosaur enthusiasts, sparking imagination and wonder about prehistoric life. The fact that a child "loves dinosaurs" and enjoys repeat visits underscores their enduring appeal.
- Highly Interactive Science Exhibits: Beyond the dinosaurs, the entire Pusat Sains Negara is renowned for its hands-on approach. Visitors can immerse themselves in various sections covering science, IT, marine life, and forests, with numerous "experiments" and "machines" to interact with. This active engagement makes learning fun and memorable.
- Affordable Entry Tickets: A major highlight for locals is the incredibly low ticket price. With "cheap tickets," adult Malaysians paying only RM6, and children between 7-12 years old paying RM3, it offers exceptional value for money, making quality educational entertainment accessible to a wide audience.
- Live Experiment Sessions: The scheduled live science experiment sessions are a big draw. These shows feature engaging presenters who "attract the audience's attention" with exciting demonstrations, providing a dynamic and entertaining way to learn about scientific principles.
- OBSKURA Virtual Reality (VR) Experience: For those seeking cutting-edge technology, the OBSKURA section provides a virtual reality experience. As one reviewer noted, using VR "certainly has a distinguished advantage to add on as experience," making it a modern highlight for the tech-savvy visitor.
- Two Sessions Daily: The structured morning (9 AM - 12 PM) and afternoon (2 PM - 4:30 PM) slots, while requiring pre-booking, help manage crowds and ensure visitors have dedicated time to explore. For enthusiastic learners, the "3 hours morning slot was not enough," indicating the richness of the content.
- Wading Pool and Playground Area: A thoughtful addition for families is the playground area with a wading pool. This allows children to "splash after a long day doing science," providing a refreshing and fun recreational break, especially appealing on hot days.
These features collectively make the Dinosaur Encounter at Pusat Sains Negara a vibrant and enriching destination for locals in Kuala Lumpur, promising a blend of educational insight and family-friendly fun.
As a public institution dedicated to science education, the Dinosaur Encounter at Pusat Sains Negara primarily focuses on providing accessible and affordable learning experiences rather than traditional commercial promotions. However, its pricing structure and operational aspects can be considered ongoing "special offers" to the community.
- Incredibly Affordable Ticket Prices: The most significant "special offer" is the consistently low admission fee. With tickets priced at an incredibly affordable RM6 for adult Malaysians and RM3 for children aged 7-12, the centre ensures that high-quality science education and entertainment are within reach for most families in Kuala Lumpur. This affordability is a key factor in its popularity and value proposition.
- Free Entry for Younger Children: Typically, children below a certain age (often 6 years old) receive free entry, making it even more budget-friendly for families with toddlers and preschoolers.
- Live Science Shows Included: The captivating live experiment sessions, held twice daily, are included in the general admission ticket. This adds substantial value to the visit, offering engaging demonstrations and deeper scientific insights without any additional cost for the main shows.
- Online Slot Booking for Convenience: While not a discount, the requirement to "book your slots here online in advance" is a practical "offer" that enhances the visitor experience by managing crowd levels and ensuring a smoother entry process, thereby maximizing enjoyment during your allocated session.
- OBSKURA (Virtual Reality) as an Optional Add-On: While requiring an "additional ticket," the OBSKURA VR experience can be seen as a premium "special offer" for those seeking a more advanced and immersive technological adventure beyond the standard exhibits. It allows visitors to customize their experience based on their interests.
It is important to note that specific, time-limited promotional campaigns (like seasonal discounts or package deals) are rare for public science centres. However, for any potential new exhibits, special events, or changes in pricing, locals should monitor the official website of Pusat Sains Negara or their social media channels. The enduring "offer" remains the centre's commitment to providing affordable, high-quality interactive science education.

Mar 18, 2022 · Nahnee AwesomeArriving around 10 a.m on Monday school holiday morning certainly gave me an advantage. The parking area was still clear ( I parked on the other side of the main road), so definitely there would be some walking. For me it's alright so long there was no long line to buy tickets and yes, we got to chill going into almost all areas in this huge premise as it wasn't crowded yet. We got to watch the live experiment session in the morning and I would say the presenter was able to attract the audience's attention. I would say my son's favourite is Dodge Attack as using VR is definitely have a distinguished advantage to add on as experience. Other than that, the dinosaurs were the same yet we repeat the visit because my son loves dinosaurs. However the prehistoric trail doesn't seem to look good. Trex has gone and even some of the words at the entrance itself have gone too. Hope the responsible party would make the repairs needed on the broken equipment and other parts of displays too. Side note, if your children love to play in wading pool, do bring along extra shirt and pants, just in case they want some splash after a long day doing science. The pool was at the playground area near to the entrance
