Hutan Lipur Eco Rimba Jerangkang Introduce
For us locals in Pahang, the beauty of our state often lies in its pristine natural landscapes, and among them, the waterfalls hold a special allure. While many are well-trodden, there are hidden gems that offer an untouched, world-class experience for those willing to venture a little further. One such remarkable destination is Hutan Lipur Eco Rimba Jerangkang, located near Gambang. This isn't just a single waterfall; it's a magnificent system of cascading waters, offering an unparalleled sense of peace and natural grandeur that truly sets it apart.
Hutan Lipur Eco Rimba Jerangkang is renowned for its impressive series of waterfalls, with locals often counting over 40 distinct tiers along the Sungai Jerangkang. Unlike many crowded tourist spots, Jerangkang maintains a raw, serene atmosphere, allowing visitors to truly immerse themselves in nature. As one enthusiastic visitor aptly put it, "after visiting more than 100 waterfalls this is one of the favorites in terms of no crowds! Walked 5 hours without seeing a single person, climbing and jumping off the falls. There are around 40+ and just the beauty and peace!" This speaks volumes about the tranquil and unspoiled experience awaiting those who make the journey.
While its rustic charm means the access road can be challenging, requiring a 4WD vehicle for comfort, and basic facilities are, well, basic, these aspects only add to its adventurous appeal. For us Pahang residents who truly appreciate unadulterated nature and are prepared for a rugged, self-sufficient adventure, Jerangkang Waterfalls offers an escape into a world of cascading beauty and profound tranquility. It's a place where the sounds of the jungle and the roar of the waterfalls are your only companions, promising an unforgettable journey for the true nature lover.
Hutan Lipur Eco Rimba Jerangkang is nestled within the lush natural landscape of Pahang, specifically located at Jalan Paya Rambutan, 26300 Gambang, Pahang, Malaysia. This places it in the Gambang area, which is relatively accessible from major towns in Pahang like Kuantan and Maran. It is approximately 51.5 km from Jalan Kuantan/Maran and about 10 km from the Paya Rambutan intersection, situated within the Berkelah Forest Reserve.
While its geographical location is convenient for Pahang locals, the accessibility to the core waterfall area requires a bit of an adventure. A crucial detail for visitors is that the access road to the waterfalls is "only accessible by 4WD and quite brutal." As noted by a local reviewer, "It’s not properly maintained." This means that standard vehicles might struggle, and hiring a local 4WD service or going with an experienced driver is highly recommended. Some companies, like Jerangkang Trucks, offer convenient all-in-one services that include 4WD transportation and even guarded parking near the starting point.
Once the 4WD journey ends at the base camp area (often the first level of waterfalls), visitors will typically need to embark on a trek to explore the numerous tiers. This hike can range from a short 10-15 minute walk to the second level, to several hours for exploring the higher, more pristine waterfalls. Although the initial access road is rough, the journey into the heart of Jerangkang is well worth the effort for those seeking a truly untouched natural experience. The remote nature ensures that it remains "one of the favorites in terms of no crowds," preserving its serene beauty for those who make the effort. The forest eco-park is open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and admission is free.
- Multi-Tiered Waterfalls Exploration: The primary attraction is the extensive system of waterfalls, reportedly featuring over 40 tiers. Visitors can trek upstream to explore multiple cascades, offering varying levels of beauty and challenge.
- Swimming and Wading: Many of the waterfall tiers feature natural pools, perfect for swimming, wading, and cooling off in the crystal-clear jungle water.
- Camping: The base area, typically at the first few levels of waterfalls (around the 2nd level after the 4WD drop-off), offers suitable spots for camping, allowing visitors to extend their stay and fully immerse themselves in nature.
- Basic Facilities: At the base, there are rudimentary facilities. Reviews mention "something resembling a toilet but with no water" and "a cooking area and few elevated gazebos around it." While basic, these provide some convenience for day-trippers and campers.
- Jungle Trekking/Hiking: Beyond the immediate waterfall areas, there are trails for jungle trekking. Exploring the higher tiers involves navigating natural paths, sometimes requiring climbing over rocks and through forest terrain.
- 4WD Transportation Services (External): Due to the challenging access road, specialized 4WD services are available from external operators (e.g., Jerangkang Trucks). These services often include transportation from a designated meeting point to the base of the waterfalls, and sometimes guarded parking.
- Nature Photography: With its untouched beauty, lush greenery, and numerous waterfalls, Jerangkang offers abundant opportunities for nature photography.
- Peace and Tranquility: The remote nature of the waterfalls, combined with the challenging access, ensures a low crowd density, offering an unparalleled sense of peace and solitude for visitors.
- Over 40 Tiers of Waterfalls: The most remarkable feature of Hutan Lipur Eco Rimba Jerangkang is its incredible network of waterfalls. Unlike many other single-drop or multi-drop falls, Jerangkang boasts "around 40+" tiers cascading down the river, offering a seemingly endless exploration of natural beauty. This sheer number provides a unique experience of discovering new cascades and pools as you venture upstream.
- Uncrowded, Pristine Environment: A significant highlight, especially for nature lovers, is the distinct lack of crowds. As a reviewer noted, you can "walk 5 hours without seeing a single person." This allows for an unparalleled sense of peace and a truly undisturbed immersion in nature, a rarity in many popular tourist spots. The feeling of having a "world-class waterfalls" all to yourself is truly special.
- Crystal-Clear Water and Natural Pools: The water at Jerangkang is described as "beautiful as ever" and "crystal clear." Many tiers form inviting natural pools perfect for swimming and cooling off, making the journey upstream even more refreshing. The purity of the water enhances the overall natural experience.
- Adventure of 4WD Access: The journey to Jerangkang begins with an adventurous 4WD ride on a "quite brutal" and unmaintained access road. While challenging, this adds an element of excitement and adventure, making the destination feel truly remote and earned. It's a highlight for those who love off-road experiences.
- Self-Sufficient Exploration: Jerangkang encourages a self-sufficient and adventurous spirit. Visitors can spend hours "climbing and jumping off the falls," charting their own course and discovering hidden gems along the various tiers, fostering a strong connection with the environment.
- Rich Biodiversity: Being located within a forest reserve, the area is rich in tropical flora and fauna. The journey through the lush rainforest provides opportunities to observe diverse plant life and perhaps even some local wildlife, enhancing the eco-tourism aspect.
- Basic but Functional Campsite & Facilities: While not luxurious, the presence of a "cooking area and few elevated gazebos" at the base provides basic amenities for those planning to camp, making it feasible for overnight stays amidst nature.
As Hutan Lipur Eco Rimba Jerangkang is a natural forest eco-park managed by the Forestry Department, it generally does not offer traditional commercial "promotions" or "special offers" in the way a private business might. The primary "offer" is the free admission to the park itself, allowing public access to its stunning waterfalls.
However, there are a few points related to costs and services that visitors should be aware of:
- Free Admission: As per information from the Forestry Department, Hutan Lipur Eco Rimba Jerangkang offers FREE admission to the park. This makes it an incredibly value-for-money destination for nature lovers.
- 4WD Services: While the park entry is free, the challenging access road means most visitors will need to engage an external 4WD transportation service. Companies like "Jerangkang Trucks" (details often found on their Facebook pages) specialize in providing this crucial service, which would involve a fee. It is advisable to contact them directly for their current rates and any potential group packages they might offer. Some tour operators also offer all-inclusive packages that cover 4WD transport, permits (if required in future), guides, and even meals and camping equipment for a fee (e.g., Jommoutdoor offers a 2D1N trip for RM225 per pax with a minimum of 14 pax).
- Permit Information: While Jerangkang Forest Eco Park currently lists "FREE admission," it's crucial for visitors to always check the latest regulations with the Pahang Forestry Department. Permanent forest reserves in Malaysia are increasingly implementing permit systems (e.g., RM10 per pax for Pahang, applied online at least 7 days in advance via System e-Ekopark) to control access and ensure conservation. Although the current information states free admission, policies can change, and it's vital to be prepared to apply for a permit if required, to avoid penalties.
Therefore, while you won't find discount coupons, the inherent "promotion" is the unparalleled access to a truly world-class, uncrowded natural wonder with minimal direct cost, provided you can manage the 4WD access.

Hutan Lipur Eco Rimba Jerangkang Reviews
We try to visit Jerangkang waterfalls every year. Last visit was few days ago and it’s beautiful as ever but the same problem persists. The responsible body managing this place certainly did not manage it properly. Access road is only accessible by 4WD and quite brutal. It’s not properly maintained. At the base, there are some facilities or something that looks like a facilities, for example, something resembling a toilet but with no water. There are a cooking area and few elevated gazebos around it.As usual, some of the visitors loves to leave their trash behind for us to clean up and some even smart enough to burn their trash including plastics, water bottles, cans and polystyrene food containers and just left it on the ground. Some people are just shortsighted and do not appreciate nature. So I recommend to bring a lot of trash bag so that you can carry some of this trash down to keep the area clean. It’s a truly world class waterfalls but uneducated visitors and incompetent management will certainly adds to its destruction.
