Berkelah Falls Introduce
Are you looking for a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life, right here in our beautiful state of Pahang? Look no further than Berkelah Falls, a magnificent natural wonder nestled within the lush rainforest of Gambang. This multi-tiered waterfall is a true gem, offering a perfect blend of adventure and tranquility for families, friends, and solo adventurers alike.
Berkelah Falls is more than just a waterfall; it's a vibrant ecosystem teeming with natural beauty. Imagine crystal-clear waters cascading over impressive rock formations, surrounded by the soothing sounds of the forest and the refreshing embrace of cool, fresh air. It’s a place where you can reconnect with nature, challenge yourself with a rewarding hike, or simply relax and soak in the serene ambiance.
Whether you're an avid hiker seeking to conquer its higher tiers or simply looking for a picturesque spot for a picnic and a dip, Berkelah Falls promises an unforgettable experience. It's a testament to Pahang's rich natural heritage, offering a slice of paradise right on our doorstep.
Berkelah Falls is conveniently located in Sungai Berkelah, 26300 Gambang, Pahang, Malaysia. This makes it a highly accessible natural attraction for residents across Pahang, particularly those in Kuantan and surrounding areas. The falls are situated approximately 31 to 35 kilometers west of Kuantan City, along Federal Route 2 towards Maran. This well-maintained road makes driving to the area straightforward.
If you’re driving from Kuantan, you'll head west on Route 2. Keep an eye out for the signboard that says "Selamat Datang Welcome Hutan Lipur Berkelah" at the trailhead. From this signboard, it’s about a 4-6km walk on a tar/gravel road to the Berkelah Park Entrance, marked by a sheltered bridge with the sign "Selamat Datang Ke Hutan Lipur Berkelah." While the road conditions are generally suitable for sedan cars to reach the park entrance, some parts may be unpaved, making a 4x4 vehicle preferable for a smoother journey, especially if you plan to venture further into the reserve. It's worth noting that recent upgrades to the road leading to the park entrance have improved accessibility significantly.
For those relying on public transport, while direct bus services to the trailhead might be limited or their operational status varies, you can take a bus from Kuantan to Gambang. Upon reaching Gambang, you can then consider hiring a taxi or using a ride-sharing service to reach the falls. However, private transport is generally recommended for convenience and flexibility.
Once you've reached the designated parking area or drop-off point near the falls, a hike is required to reach the various tiers of the waterfall. The initial part of the hike to the lower tiers is relatively easy, suitable for most fitness levels, while reaching the higher tiers involves more challenging terrain, including slippery rocks and some steep ascents. Visitors are advised to wear comfortable hiking shoes and be prepared for some walking through the lush rainforest. It's also a good idea to visit early in the morning to avoid crowds and enjoy a more tranquil experience.
Berkelah Falls, as a natural forest eco-park, focuses on providing a pristine natural environment for visitors. While it doesn't offer commercial services in the traditional sense, it facilitates a range of outdoor activities and experiences. Based on available public information, here are some of the services and facilities you can expect:
- Hiking Trails: The primary service is access to well-marked, though sometimes challenging, hiking trails that lead to various tiers of the waterfall. These trails cater to different fitness levels, from easy walks to more strenuous climbs to the upper falls.
- Swimming Opportunities: Numerous clear pools at different tiers of the waterfall offer refreshing swimming spots for visitors to cool off after their hike.
- Picnic Areas: Designated spots along the river and near the lower falls provide ideal locations for families and groups to enjoy picnics amidst nature.
- Camping Facilities: Berkelah Falls is a popular spot for camping, with several campsites located along the trail, including sheltered areas and open spaces near the riverbanks. Visitors are advised to bring their own camping gear.
- Basic Rest Facilities: While comprehensive facilities are not available, there may be very basic shelters or rest spots, especially at the main park entrance. Public toilets may also be available at the main entrance area.
- Nature Exploration: The park offers opportunities for exploring the rich local flora and fauna, making it a great spot for nature lovers and birdwatchers.
Berkelah Falls is renowned for its captivating natural features and the unique experiences it offers. Here are some of its undeniable highlights:
- Multi-Tiered Waterfalls: The most prominent feature of Berkelah Falls is its impressive cascade of waterfalls. Official sources state there are seven tiers, with the highest reaching an estimated 50 meters. However, some explorers suggest there are even more tiers beyond the seventh. Each tier offers a distinct view and experience, from gentle cascades to more powerful drops.
- Crystal-Clear Pools: At the base of many of the waterfalls, you'll find inviting, clear plunge pools. These natural pools are perfect for a refreshing dip, allowing visitors to cool down and relax after their trek. The water is often described as icy cold and clean, providing a true natural jacuzzi experience.
- Lush Rainforest Environment: The falls are enveloped by a dense, verdant rainforest, part of the Berkelah Forest Reserve. This provides a stunning backdrop for hiking and offers opportunities to observe local wildlife and diverse plant species in their natural habitat.
- Varied Hiking Terrain: The trail to Berkelah Falls offers a dynamic hiking experience. From relatively flat initial sections to more challenging ascents over slippery rocks and through forested areas, the trek keeps adventurers engaged. Some sections may even require minor scrambling or careful navigation, adding to the adventure.
- Riverside Campsites: Along the hiking trail, particularly near the lower tiers, you'll find various campsites. These range from sheltered spots to open areas, providing excellent opportunities for overnight stays amidst the sounds of the flowing river and the serene jungle.
- Photographic Opportunities: The stunning natural scenery, from the cascading water to the lush greenery and unique rock formations, makes Berkelah Falls a paradise for photographers. Every turn offers a picturesque moment waiting to be captured.
As a natural forest eco-park managed by the Forestry Department, Berkelah Falls typically does not have ongoing commercial promotions or special offers in the way a private business might. Entry to Berkelah Forest Eco Park is often free of charge. However, it's always advisable to check with the local Forestry Department office for any updates on fees or regulations, as policies can change.
While there are no direct promotions from Berkelah Falls itself, you might find special offers from tour operators or local homestays in the nearby Gambang or Kuantan areas that cater to visitors planning a trip to the falls. These could include:
- Accommodation Packages: Hotels and homestays in Gambang or Kuantan might offer special rates or packages for visitors looking to explore local attractions, including Berkelah Falls.
- Guided Tour Packages: Some adventure tour companies might offer guided hikes to Berkelah Falls, occasionally bundling them with transportation or other activities at a promotional rate.
- Camping Group Deals: For larger groups interested in camping, some local providers might offer equipment rental or guided camping experiences at a special rate.
Given the nature of the attraction, the main "special offer" is the opportunity to experience the pristine natural beauty of Berkelah Falls at minimal or no entry cost, making it an incredibly valuable and accessible outdoor destination for everyone.

Berkelah Falls Reviews
Great place to go n hiking. We hike until the topA little risk to hike due to rock are to slipperyBe careful guys.
Apr 05, 2025 · Apt ElectricHow many years you want to close the place. Ridiculous been waiting since before covid. And now inside there people started to charge for parking??? Who is controlling all this?
Jun 10, 2025 · KeshavOn January 28th I went with 3 others. If you are looking to visiting this place, please please read this review. It is closed permanently. However, we found a way to get in which significantly increased hike time. Being closed, the path is very bushy and untamed, so it's harder to follow the trail while not getting lost. The waterfall is BEAUTIFUL but because it's not maintained ypu have to stop and can't go beyond the first powerful misty waterfall. If you're lookin to go here, it's very hard to find. The address leads you to the highway side which is not correct as there is no exit there. You have to take a different route via a back road.
