4.0
A place suitable for those who can accept the bare minimum. Officer in charge at the building is helpful but not the HQ-CC officers who love to tresspassing your rental unit without notice. I wrote many formal letters and complaints regarding their officer tresspassing and taking my stuff in my unit with immature written notice period and at my absence yet none bother to reply nor apologize. MENCEROBOH UNIT SEWA, MENGGELEDAH unit penyewa dan MENCURI BARANG PENYEWA. If you read this any officers- i pray that your life never ever peace. I will never forgive you for what you did to my PAID space AND NO RESPECT FOR LEGALLY ADHERE TO FOLLOW LAW. I HAVE BEEN NICE AND GIVE ADEQUATE TIME BEFORE PUT THIS REVIEW HERE.Pls get my permission if any reader intent to make this as a content. - Farha Salim

Perumahan Bandar @ TAR Introduce

Welcome to Perumahan Bandar @ TAR, a unique shared living space managed by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), located right in the bustling heart of Kuala Lumpur. Situated at 54, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, City Centre, 50100 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, this establishment offers a distinctive hostel-like experience primarily aimed at providing affordable accommodation for individuals, particularly youth and those new to working in the capital city.

Kuala Lumpur, as the vibrant capital of Malaysia, is a hub of economic activity, education, and culture, attracting many young individuals seeking new opportunities. While the city offers a wide range of accommodation options, finding something truly affordable and centrally located can be a significant challenge, especially for those just starting their careers or looking for long-term budget solutions. Perumahan Bandar @ TAR fills this gap by offering a practical solution for basic housing needs.

It's important to understand that Perumahan Bandar @ TAR operates with a specific concept: it's a place for "those who can accept the bare minimum" but seek an "affordable" place to "stay & sleep" in a prime location. It provides a structured shared living environment, managed by DBKL, with the aim of offering accessible housing. As a government-managed initiative, it operates differently from typical commercial hostels or private rentals. While it focuses on affordability and basic provision, prospective residents should be aware of its unique operational model and review processes, as highlighted in some user feedback, particularly concerning communication and access protocols. However, for many, especially young individuals starting out in KL, the benefits of cheap rental and a central location make it a viable option for their initial stay in the city.

The location offers unparalleled accessibility to various parts of Kuala Lumpur. It is within walking distance or a very short public transport ride to major city attractions and business districts. Public transportation is a significant highlight:

  • LRT Stations: The nearest Light Rail Transit (LRT) stations, such as Masjid Jamek LRT Station or Bandaraya LRT Station, are often just a few minutes' walk away. These stations connect residents to the Ampang Line and Sri Petaling Line, providing seamless access to areas like KLCC, Bukit Bintang, KL Sentral, and further afield.

  • Monorail Stations: Several Monorail stations are also relatively close, offering connections to Bukit Bintang, Chow Kit, and KL Sentral.

Services Offered

Perumahan Bandar @ TAR, being a DBKL-managed hostel, offers a specific set of services tailored towards providing affordable and basic accommodation. Based on available public information and user reviews, here are the services and facilities generally provided:

  • Shared Room Accommodation: The primary service is shared room accommodation. Rooms are described as being divided "by curtains to four beds like a hospital ward," indicating a dormitory-style setup where individual privacy is maintained through curtains rather than solid walls. Each resident typically gets their own bed and a personal space.

  • Shared Toilet Facilities: Residents share communal toilet facilities, akin to a standard hostel environment. These facilities are maintained by the DBKL management.

  • Pantry with Refrigerator: Each floor is equipped with a "pantry with refrigerator," allowing residents to store food items. However, cooking is generally not permitted ("you cannot cook here"). This suggests that residents are expected to rely on nearby eateries or ready-to-eat meals.

  • Basic Furnishings: While not explicitly detailed, it can be inferred that basic furnishings such as beds and possibly a small locker or storage space are provided for each resident.

  • DBKL Management and Support: The facility is managed by DBKL (Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur). "Any issue will be handled by them." This indicates a structured management system for maintenance and general operation.

  • Affordable Rental: The primary service proposition is providing accommodation at a "cheap rental," making it accessible for individuals with limited budgets, especially those starting their careers in Kuala Lumpur.

  • Application via E-Perumahan DBKL: Prospective residents must apply to stay here through the official DBKL e-housing portal, eperumahan.dbkl.gov.my, suggesting a formal application and selection process.

It is important to note the limitations based on user feedback: cooking is not allowed, and some tenants have reported issues with management regarding privacy and property handling, which prospective applicants should consider. However, for its target demographic, the provision of a basic, affordable, and centrally located sleeping space is the core service.

Features / Highlights

  • Extremely Affordable Rental: The most significant highlight of Perumahan Bandar @ TAR is its "cheap rental." For individuals, especially youth and those new to Kuala Lumpur seeking their first job, this offers an unparalleled budget-friendly housing solution in a prime city location, which is a major challenge in KL's competitive rental market.

  • Prime Central Kuala Lumpur Location: Situated on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, the hostel boasts an excellent central location. This provides easy and quick access to major public transport hubs (LRT, Monorail, buses), business districts, shopping areas, cultural attractions, and a vast array of local eateries. The convenience of this location is a huge draw for residents.

  • DBKL Management and Oversight: Being managed by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) implies a certain level of official oversight and a structured system for addressing issues. "Everything is under DBKL management, any issue will be handle by them," which can be a reassurance for some residents regarding basic operational standards.

  • Dedicated Space for Youth and New Workers: The facility is noted as a "good place for youth to stay for the first time working in Kuala Lumpur." This specific targeting means the environment is likely to be populated by individuals in similar life stages, potentially fostering a sense of community among residents.

  • Basic, Functional Facilities: While minimalist, the facilities are designed for function. Each floor having rooms "divided by curtains to four beds like a hospital ward" provides a personal sleeping space, and the "pantry with refrigerator" offers basic food storage. The shared toilets are a common hostel feature.

  • Opportunity for Community Building: The shared living concept inherently encourages interaction. As one review notes, it's about having "your own space and respect the space of others," suggesting an environment where residents learn to coexist and potentially form connections.

It is important to acknowledge that some reviews highlight significant concerns regarding unauthorized entry and handling of personal belongings by management. While these issues are serious and should be thoroughly investigated by DBKL, for individuals prioritizing extreme affordability and a central location above all else, and who are willing to navigate such challenges, the core offerings remain attractive.

Conclusion: Why Perumahan Bandar @ TAR is Suitable for Locals

For residents of Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, especially young adults, students, or those embarking on their first careers in the city, Perumahan Bandar @ TAR offers a uniquely suitable and practical accommodation solution. The primary and undeniable advantage is its extreme affordability. In a city like Kuala Lumpur where rental costs, particularly in central areas, can be prohibitive, the "cheap rental" provided by this DBKL-managed hostel makes living in a prime location financially viable for individuals on a limited budget. This accessibility allows locals to save on living expenses, which can be crucial during initial career stages or while studying.

Secondly, the unbeatable central location on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman is a massive draw. For anyone working or studying in Kuala Lumpur, being within walking distance or a short public transport ride to major business districts, educational institutions, and public amenities significantly cuts down on daily commuting time and costs. This saves valuable time and energy, allowing residents to focus more on their work or studies and less on navigating city traffic. The vibrant surroundings also mean easy access to affordable local food, markets, and cultural experiences, enriching daily life.

While the living arrangement is basic and shared, the concept caters to a specific demographic. For "youth to stay for the first time working in Kuala Lumpur," it provides a transitional space. It fosters an environment where residents can learn to live independently, manage shared spaces, and potentially build a network with peers in similar situations. The "respect the space of others" ethos is crucial in such shared living, promoting a sense of responsibility and community.

It is important for locals to acknowledge the nature of this DBKL-managed housing, including its limitations and the reported issues by some tenants regarding privacy and management communication. However, for those who understand and accept these trade-offs in exchange for unparalleled affordability and a prime location, Perumahan Bandar @ TAR serves as a highly functional and practical stepping stone. It's not a luxury stay, but it's a strategically located, budget-friendly option that enables many young Malaysians to kickstart their lives and careers right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
