The Resthouse is ideally situated on Pulau Perhentian Besar, Terengganu, Malaysia. Its exact location within Pulau Perhentian Besar allows guests to experience the island's natural splendor away from the more bustling areas, while still maintaining access to its essential charms. For locals in Terengganu, reaching Perhentian Island is an integral part of the adventure. The primary gateway is Kuala Besut Jetty in Besut, Terengganu. From Kuala Besut, regular speedboats operate to various drop-off points on Pulau Perhentian Besar. The boat journey typically takes between 30 to 45 minutes, offering scenic views of the open sea and approaching island landscapes.
Upon arrival at Pulau Perhentian Besar, specific arrangements may be needed to reach The Resthouse, as its "one of a kind" nature suggests it might be tucked away in a more secluded or natural part of the island. Guests should inquire with the hosts, Tommi and Max, about the best way to get to the property from their boat drop-off point. It's common on Perhentian for water taxis to be the primary mode of transport between different beaches and bays, or for a short trek along jungle paths. This adds to the adventurous and disconnected feel of the stay. For those coming from other parts of Terengganu, such as Kuala Terengganu city, the journey involves a land transfer to Kuala Besut Jetty, followed by the exhilarating boat ride. The location on Perhentian Besar ensures that guests are perfectly positioned to explore the island's vibrant marine life, lush jungles, and stunning beaches, making it an excellent choice for a genuine island experience in Terengganu.

Feb 09, 2025 · Mohammed Helmi SethStayed here with my family in April 2018. It was an amazing experience, absolutely beautiful house and beach, very peaceful, visits from monkeys and flying lemurs. The hosts (Tommi and Max) were extremely welcoming and took us on a boat trip to visit the turtle conservation project and go snorkeling - was fantastic all around.
May 13, 2018 · Leah JamesWe stayed at The Resthouse earlier in May and enjoyed every minute of our time there on the Perhentians. Lou and the owner Hayati were wonderful hosts who made us both welcome in their beautiful home. Our wooden cabin was simple but stunning, with a fab set-up and easy access to the reef for snorkeling. I would highly recommend staying here. If you're interested in learning about the Turtle Conservation Project too, the team are great and happy for you to get involved. We were lucky enough to see a turtle laying eggs on the beach one evening - it was an unforgettable experience!
May 26, 2019 · Beth NewtonA wooden house, on its own, by the sea...A large portion of proceeds from The Resthouse are channeled into our conservation project - Lang Tengah Turtle Watch - on a neighbouring island. We encourage all our guests to spend a day visiting and enjoying this project, to see how your stay is contributing to the conservation of these majestic creatures. The spaceA wooden house, by the sea; entirely on its own, on a promontory - hidden in amongst the trees..Hayati moved this house from where it was originally: near Ipoh, on the West Coast of Malaysia, 250 km away.It was built by the British Government, between the wars - has not been altered, and is furnished according to the period.Guest accessTwo double bedrooms, two twin bedrooms. The rooms are equipped with: fan, cupboard, hall stand, bedside cabinet, reading light, chair, bedsheets and towels. There is a kitchen for a bit of self-catering - juices and breakfasts only - and plenty of tea and freshly ground coffee provided. For lunches and evening meals, there are resorts nearby offering food, and several good restaurants 3 to 5 minutes further down the beach.Interaction with guestsDuring your holiday the host lives on the premises together with you. She will be welcoming you at check in. In case you have any questions about the house, organising snorkelling or scuba diving trips, boat transfers or the island and its surroundings, feel free to ask for help.Other things to noteThe house is completely made out of salvaged wood and, therefore, no rainforest trees were cut. It runs with solar power and we try to be as eco-friendly as possible given the fragile marine environment. You are also encouraged to use our biodegradable toiletries. We offer filtered water and ice for free.We do not have hot running water.
