Forest Skywalk Kepong Introduce
For us, the vibrant residents of Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, the city offers endless excitement, but sometimes, a unique escape into nature is exactly what we crave. The Forest Skywalk Kepong, nestled within the expansive Taman Botani FRIM, provides just that: an extraordinary opportunity to experience our lush rainforest from an exhilarating new perspective – high above the ground, among the treetops. It's not just a walk in the park; it's an elevated adventure that promises breathtaking panoramic views, fresh air, and a truly unforgettable encounter with Malaysia's rich biodiversity. While it requires a bit of planning, the reward of seeing our city's green heart from a bird's-eye view is absolutely worth it.
The Forest Skywalk is an impressive structure, comprising 11 towers and 8 bridges, with heights varying from 18 meters to a thrilling 50 meters, and a total length of 250 meters. It's designed to give visitors a unique immersion into the forest canopy, allowing us to appreciate the intricate ecosystem of the rainforest in a way that ground-level trails cannot. As many of us have discovered, navigating the booking process and understanding the access points is key to a smooth visit. While some initial experiences might have a few kinks to iron out, the sheer experience of walking high above the trees, feeling the cool breeze, and spotting wildlife from an elevated vantage point truly makes it a distinctive attraction in Kuala Lumpur. It's an adventure suitable even for an 8-year-old, offering just the right amount of thrill without being overly strenuous, proving that unique experiences are accessible to families and nature enthusiasts alike.
This remarkable structure is part of the larger Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), a leading institution in tropical forestry research. The Skywalk's location within the Kepong Botanic Gardens (KBG) section of FRIM highlights its commitment to both conservation and public engagement. It provides a unique educational platform, allowing visitors to appreciate the scale and beauty of our forests and perhaps even spark a deeper interest in environmental preservation. For us locals, it's a reminder of the incredible natural heritage we possess right within our city, offering a refreshing and inspiring way to spend a day reconnecting with nature.
The Forest Skywalk Kepong is located within Taman Botani FRIM, with its address being Taman Botani Frim, 68100 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It's important to note that while the general FRIM compound has multiple entrances, the Forest Skywalk is specifically located within the Kepong Botanic Gardens (KBG) section of FRIM, which has its own designated entrance.
For those driving, it's crucial to navigate directly to "Kepong Botanic Gardens" or "Forest Skywalk FRIM" using GPS applications like Waze or Google Maps, rather than the main FRIM campus entrance, as the access points are distinct. Parking is available at the Kepong Botanic Gardens entrance, and while there's a nominal fee for parking, it ensures dedicated and generally safer spots for vehicles. The walk from the parking lot to the Skywalk office is approximately 10-15 minutes, along a pleasant, easy trail within the botanical gardens.
Public transport options are also available, though they require a bit of extra travel. Visitors can take the KTM Komuter train to Kepong Sentral station or the MRT to Sri Damansara Barat or Kepong Baru stations. From these stations, a short Grab ride or taxi would be necessary to reach the Kepong Botanic Gardens entrance of FRIM. This multi-modal accessibility makes the Forest Skywalk reachable for a wide range of Kuala Lumpur residents. It's worth noting the operating hours for the Skywalk: it's open Saturday to Thursday from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, and closed on Fridays for maintenance. The last call for entry is at 3:30 PM, so planning your arrival time is essential to ensure you don't miss out on this unique experience.
The Forest Skywalk Kepong, as a unique attraction within a research institution, offers a specific set of experiences and 'services' rather than conventional commercial offerings:
- Elevated Forest Experience: The primary 'service' is providing a unique opportunity to walk among the treetops on an elevated structure (11 towers, 8 bridges, up to 50m high), offering a panoramic view of the forest canopy and beyond.
- Panoramic City Views: From the higher towers, especially the 50-meter one, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the Kuala Lumpur city skyline, including iconic landmarks like KLCC, KL Tower, and Merdeka 118.
- Nature Immersion and Observation: It allows visitors to experience the sights and sounds of the rainforest from a unique perspective, providing opportunities to observe birds, insects, and other arboreal wildlife up close.
- Guided Tours (Forest Skywalk @ Night): FRIM offers a special "Forest Skywalk @ Night" package on specific days (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings). This guided experience allows visitors to explore the nature trail and Skywalk at night, offering a different atmosphere and views of the city lights. (Note: This is a paid group package with specific booking requirements.)
- Educational Value: Informative signages along the Skywalk and within the Kepong Botanic Gardens provide insights into tropical forest ecosystems, biodiversity, and conservation efforts, making it an educational outing.
- Controlled and Safe Environment: Being a managed attraction within FRIM, the Skywalk operates with safety regulations, including age limits (7 and above for Skywalk, 13 and above for 50m tower) and staff presence, contributing to a secure visitor experience.
- Online Ticket Booking: While some reviewers mention challenges, FRIM has an online booking system for Skywalk tickets, which allows visitors to pre-book their slots and manage their visit more efficiently.
- Basic Amenities: Within the Kepong Botanic Gardens area, basic facilities such as public toilets are available for visitors' convenience.
The Forest Skywalk Kepong stands out with several distinct features and highlights that make it a compelling attraction for Kuala Lumpur locals:
- Exhilarating Treetop Walk: The core highlight is the unique experience of walking on a suspended structure, traversing 11 towers and 8 bridges, providing a thrilling yet safe way to explore the forest canopy from 18m to 50m above ground.
- Spectacular Panoramic Views: From the highest points, especially the 50-meter tower (with an additional fee), visitors are rewarded with expansive, breathtaking views of the lush FRIM forest, the thematic plantings of Kepong Botanic Gardens, and the impressive Kuala Lumpur city skyline in the distance.
- Family-Friendly Adventure: Despite its height, the Skywalk is designed to be accessible and enjoyable for a wide age range, including children aged 7 and above (with specific restrictions for the 50m tower), making it an excellent family outing.
- Controlled and Safe Environment: Operating within FRIM, the Skywalk benefits from structured management, safety guidelines, and staff oversight, providing visitors with a sense of security during their high-altitude experience.
- Unique Photography Opportunities: The elevated perspectives offer unparalleled chances for stunning photographs of the rainforest, the Skywalk structure itself, and the contrasting urban landscape.
- Immersive Nature Experience: It provides a chance to observe forest biodiversity (birds, insects, and occasionally monkeys) from a different vantage point, fostering a deeper connection with nature.
- Proximity to City: Located in Kepong, it offers a convenient and refreshing nature escape for Kuala Lumpur residents, eliminating the need for long journeys out of the city.
- Night Skywalk Experience: The option of the "Forest Skywalk @ Night" guided tour provides a rare and magical opportunity to experience the forest and city lights after dark, a truly unique offering.
As a key attraction within the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), the Forest Skywalk Kepong operates with a focus on conservation and public education, rather than traditional commercial promotions. Therefore, it doesn't offer ongoing sales or discounts in the retail sense. However, its 'promotions' are inherent in its public access and unique experience:
- Affordable Entry: While there are entrance fees for the Skywalk, they are very reasonable, especially for MyKad holders. For instance, adults pay RM15, and students (7-17 years old) pay RM8, with an additional RM5 for the 50m tower. These affordable rates make this unique experience accessible to a broad segment of the local population.
- Online Booking Convenience: The availability of online ticket booking (on FRIM's Skywalk website) is a significant 'offer', allowing visitors to secure their slots in advance, avoid queues, and plan their visit efficiently, even though the process might involve filling in particulars.
- Forest Skywalk @ Night Package: This special, guided night tour (available on specific days) is a unique 'promotional' offering, providing an exclusive opportunity to experience the Skywalk and the forest after dark, complete with city night views. It's a premium experience offered for a group fee.
- Educational Value: The inherent educational aspect of FRIM, where visitors can learn about the forest ecosystem and conservation, adds significant value to the experience, which can be seen as a continuous 'promotion' for environmental awareness.
- Regulated Entry for Safety: The system of online booking and timed slots, while sometimes perceived as cumbersome by initial visitors, ensures regulated numbers on the Skywalk for safety and a better visitor experience, which is an implicit 'promotion' of safety and quality.

Forest Skywalk Kepong Reviews
Very nice scenery and adventure, and not too much climbing, even 8 year old can enjoy. But must buy ticket and pay online, also need input many particulars first.
Nov 09, 2024 · Ai Fu CHINI would rate it 3.7 out of 10.First, the location is terribly misleading. Its NOT via FRIM entrance (its closed, actually), but at Taman Botani (7 min drive). Once in the park, signage to skywalk is almost non existence. Its 15 min walk (far) from parking lot. Online ticket can only be bought 1 day earlier. For same day entry, you have to walked to the counter and filled details through smartphone via the SAME online website but with a staff code, and pay online. No cash or card machine. After that, the cashier will print out your entry tickets. What the point?! Worse thing was only one vending machine for water/drinks. Which only accepts cash notes of RM 1 and 5. No other option for QR, card, Alipay, Abupay, Muthupay or AhChongBayar. Not even RM10 note.Oh ya, its open from 8 to 4pm only. 1-2pm off for lunch break. Last call 3.30pm.3.30pm aldy close shop!!This business sure die liao.
Sep 08, 2024 · weng ho leeThe newly open skywalk is very nice. The staff are friendly and very accommodating. The structure is quite sturdy. Although there is a little bit sway and the floor a bit bouncy, it's nothing to scary. The view is amazing, and from one side, you can see all the way to the city centre i.e Twin Towers and KL Tower
Oct 19, 2021 · Hardi Hazizie Ab HamidKid below 7 not allowed to enter. So parent with younger kids.. plan accordingly. Here closed at 3:30pm. When we reached here only got to know all these.. I have a younger kid so she can’t enter. also it’s raining they don’t allow visitors to enter.. I give two stars as I only at the ticketing counter and don’t get to experience the walk.
