Hello, fellow nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts of Selangor! In our bustling state, finding a peaceful green escape is a true treasure. Today, we're highlighting one such gem: the Kepong Botanic Gardens, nestled within the expansive grounds of the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM). For many of us living in and around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, FRIM is a familiar name, synonymous with lush greenery and a refreshing respite from urban life. This article aims to provide a clear, engaging, and factual overview of Kepong Botanic Gardens | FRIM, helping you understand why it's a fantastic spot for relaxation, exercise, and reconnecting with nature right here on our doorstep.
The Kepong Botanic Gardens, often referred to simply as part of FRIM, isn't just a park; it's a living laboratory and a sanctuary of biodiversity. While FRIM itself is dedicated to tropical forest research and conservation, the botanic gardens portion is specifically designed for public enjoyment and education, showcasing a wide array of plant species. It offers a unique blend of natural beauty and curated landscapes, making it a versatile destination for various activities. From leisurely strolls to more invigorating walks and even a place for quiet contemplation, it caters to a diverse range of visitors seeking a connection with nature within the urban fringe. Its serene atmosphere and well-maintained pathways provide an ideal environment for individuals, families, and groups to unwind and appreciate Malaysia's rich flora.
The Kepong Botanic Gardens | FRIM is strategically located at Jalan E 4/15, Taman Ehsan, 52100 Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Malaysia. Despite its Kuala Lumpur address, it is very much situated on the border of Selangor and easily accessible for residents across various parts of the state, particularly those in northern Kuala Lumpur, Gombak, Selayang, and Petaling Jaya.
Reaching FRIM is quite convenient. If you're driving, the area is well-connected by major roads. From Kuala Lumpur city center, you can take Jalan Kuching and then head towards Kepong. From areas within Selangor like Petaling Jaya or Subang Jaya, the LDP (Damansara-Puchong Expressway) and MRR2 (Middle Ring Road 2) offer routes that connect to the Kepong area. Once you're in the vicinity of Taman Ehsan, clear signage typically directs you to the FRIM entrance.
For those relying on public transport, while there isn't a direct MRT or LRT station right at the entrance, you can take a KTM Komuter train to Kepong Sentral or Kepong station, and then use a ride-hailing service (like Grab) or a local bus to cover the remaining distance to FRIM. Parking is available both inside and outside the park. Based on user reviews, parking outside the main gate might incur a lower entry fee, while parking inside the park comes with a separate charge. This flexibility allows visitors to choose based on their preference and convenience. The expansive nature of the grounds means that even with many visitors, the area rarely feels overcrowded, offering a peaceful experience.

Kepong Botanic Gardens | FRIM - Forest Research Institute Malaysia Reviews
I come here every week for a walk, some sketching, and reading. I love the scenery — the views are absolutely breathtaking. It’s a very calm and serene place. You can easily take a walk around the forest, and it feels safe even for solo visits, as there are always other people and staff around.
Jun 03, 2025 · Yori DesuNice park for morning walks. RM1 per entry if you park outside. RM5 for the parking inside the park. RM15 if you want to do the Skywalk, which I think is overrated but I’ve not done it. Check out other reviews on the Skywalk. Very nice scenic views with several lakes. Level 2 on the paths with only a few sections with a somewhat steep incline.
May 17, 2025 · Kevin ChandEntrance rm5 skywalk rm15 for mykad holder, not bad quite pristine fresh forest air, can see various flora and fauna. Guard not allow to cycle tak boleh berbasikal, only walk or jog
Apr 27, 2025 · Chek Yih TehPlace has one way in and out, and not really traffic friendly to get to nor to go out from. Parking was easy peasy. Walk is very short, but you can go on loops on different paths if you wanna make it longer. Nice vibe, although still can hear city noise
