Hotel Taman U

8, Jalan U1, Taman Universiti, 35900 Tanjong Malim, Perak, Malaysia

3.0
One called away for booking. It used to be an affordable place to sleep for the night (MYR70/night on weekends). Now it has increased its price per night by MYR10 (MYR80/night on weekends). Do not mind if they increase their servive, but no. Water heaters are not provided inside the room. So many ants in the bathroom sink (dont know why). Parking is not as much as its student house area.IMPORTANT POINT- They now pick your room based on per person.- Came with another 1 adult and 1 child, total of 3 persons. Took the queens bedroom, but the receptionist insists us on changing into a bigger room (family rooms). Which will cost us more. The receptionist said it's a higher up order which I do not know the reason for??!! I mean, it's our business if we are not comfortable with sharing our bed with the kids. - Jane

Hello, fellow Perakians! Are you planning a visit to Tanjong Malim, perhaps for university matters, a quick stopover, or to see family and friends? Finding a place to stay that fits your budget and offers a convenient location is often a key consideration. Let's take a closer look at Hotel Taman U, a hotel situated right in the Taman Universiti area of Tanjong Malim. This article aims to provide a clear, engaging, and informative overview of Hotel Taman U, specifically for locals in Perak, helping you understand what this hotel offers and if it aligns with your accommodation needs. We'll cover its location, what services you can expect, and provide insights based on recent guest experiences.

Tanjong Malim, particularly with the presence of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), sees a steady flow of visitors, including parents, students, and academics. This creates a demand for accessible and affordable lodging. Hotel Taman U, given its name and address, appears to cater to this specific need. While it aims to offer a budget-friendly option, it's always crucial to have a comprehensive understanding of what a hotel provides beyond just its price point. We understand that local users value transparency and practical information, and this detailed look into Hotel Taman U will equip you with all the necessary details to help you make an informed decision about your next stay in Tanjong Malim.

Hotel Taman U is precisely located at 8, Jalan U1, Taman Universiti, 35900 Tanjong Malim, Perak, Malaysia. This address clearly places it within the Taman Universiti neighbourhood, which is highly significant for its proximity to Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), one of Malaysia's prominent public universities. This makes Hotel Taman U a particularly relevant option for anyone visiting the university, be it students, parents, lecturers, or staff.

The accessibility of Hotel Taman U is generally straightforward for locals within Perak and those traveling from neighbouring states like Selangor. Tanjong Malim itself is a town strategically located near the border of Perak and Selangor, making it easily reachable via major expressways. The North-South Expressway (PLUS Highway) provides direct access, with the Tanjong Malim Exit serving as the primary gateway. From the exit, local roads will lead you directly to Taman Universiti and Jalan U1. For those relying on public transportation, Tanjong Malim has a KTM Komuter station, which connects it to various towns in Perak and Selangor, including Kuala Lumpur. From the KTM station, local taxis or ride-sharing services would be available to take you to Hotel Taman U, a relatively short distance given its location within the established Taman Universiti area.

Being situated in Taman Universiti means the hotel is likely surrounded by amenities catering to a university crowd, such as eateries, convenience stores, and perhaps stationery shops. This proximity to essential services adds to the convenience for guests during their stay. The location's key advantage is its direct relevance to UPSI, making it an intuitive choice for anyone whose primary purpose of visit revolves around the university. While the review mentions that "parking is not as much as its student house area," it does suggest that some parking is available, though guests should manage expectations during peak times. Overall, the hotel's location is practical and easily accessible for a significant portion of the local Perak population.

Based on the provided customer reviews, Hotel Taman U offers a basic set of services typical of a budget-friendly hotel. It aims to provide essential comforts for a short stay, but prospective guests should note certain limitations highlighted by previous visitors.

  • Accommodation: The hotel provides rooms for overnight stays, including options like queen bedrooms and larger family rooms.
  • Air Conditioning: Reviews indicate that air conditioning is provided and is "working well," which is crucial for comfort in Malaysia's climate.
  • Basic Bedding: Guests can expect comfortable and clean beds, as highlighted in one positive review.
  • Reception Service: There is a reception counter, but service quality appears to vary, with one review mentioning "poor counter service." The staff also enforce room allocation rules based on the number of guests.
  • Parking: Limited parking facilities are available, which might be a concern during peak periods, as noted in the feedback.
  • Pricing: Rooms are offered at a specific price point, with recent increases noted (e.g., MYR 80/night on weekends for a standard room, MYR 150 for a double queen bed).

It is important for guests to note the reported absence of water heaters inside the rooms, which means hot showers may not be available directly in the room. This is a significant point to consider, especially for those accustomed to this amenity.

While Hotel Taman U positions itself as an affordable option, certain features and highlights, as well as areas of concern, have been consistently mentioned in customer feedback. Understanding these can help locals in Perak set appropriate expectations.

  • Affordability (with recent price adjustments): The hotel is generally considered a "cheap place to stay" and offers "acceptable" pricing, especially for the size of rooms like the double queen bed at RM150. However, prices have recently increased (from MYR70 to MYR80 per night on weekends for a standard room).
  • Working Air Conditioning: A positive highlight is the reliable and well-functioning air conditioning, essential for comfort in the local climate.
  • Comfortable and Clean Beds: One review specifically praises the beds for being comfortable and clean, which is a fundamental aspect of any good night's sleep.
  • Strategic Location near UPSI: Its placement in Taman Universiti makes it extremely convenient for individuals visiting Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) for academic, family, or administrative purposes.
  • Family Room Options: The availability of family rooms, although potentially subject to mandatory upgrades based on the number of occupants, provides an option for larger groups or families.

However, it is crucial to address the significant concerns highlighted by multiple reviewers:

  • Absence of In-Room Water Heaters: This is a critical point, as hot water for showering is not provided directly in the rooms.
  • Cleanliness Issues: Several reports indicate "dirty room" conditions, including the presence of "cockroaches in the room" and "ants in the bathroom sink." Floors are also mentioned as being potentially dirty.
  • Room Condition: Reviews mention "room paint badly peeled off," suggesting issues with maintenance and upkeep.
  • Inflexible Room Allocation Policy: A significant point of frustration for one guest was being "insisted" upon changing to a more expensive, larger room based on the number of occupants, even when comfortable with sharing beds. This suggests a rigid policy.
  • Poor Counter Service: One review directly cites "poor counter service," indicating potential issues with staff responsiveness or helpfulness.
  • Limited Parking: Parking availability can be an issue, especially if the area is busy.

These points collectively suggest that while the hotel is indeed affordable and conveniently located for UPSI-related visits, guests should be prepared for a very basic experience and potential issues with cleanliness and in-room amenities.

However, it is crucial for prospective guests to set realistic expectations based on recent customer feedback. While the hotel offers basic comforts like air conditioning and comfortable beds, the reported absence of in-room water heaters and significant concerns regarding cleanliness, room maintenance (e.g., peeled paint, pests), and potentially rigid room allocation policies are important considerations. For locals who prioritize a prime location near UPSI and are comfortable with a very basic accommodation standard at a budget price, Hotel Taman U could still serve its purpose for a short stay. It is ideal for those who primarily need a place to sleep and are less concerned with amenities beyond the absolute essentials. Ultimately, Hotel Taman U caters to a specific segment of the market that values location and affordability above all else in Tanjong Malim.
