For Muslim residents of Kuala Lumpur, particularly those connected to the hospital community—whether as patients, visitors, or staff—this mosque serves as a crucial spiritual anchor, offering a convenient and accessible place for daily prayers and contemplation.
Masjid Az-Zahrawi HKL is an older mosque that has recently undergone significant renovation, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing its facilities to better serve the public. Despite its compact size, necessitated by its location at a busy junction within the expansive hospital grounds, the mosque makes optimal use of its limited space to accommodate a continuous flow of worshippers. This dedication to maximizing utility within urban constraints is a testament to its importance in the daily lives of many in KL.
The mosque is not merely a place of worship; it’s a reflection of the city’s ability to integrate spiritual needs within its most essential public services. Its well-maintained and clean interior, despite a high volume of visitors, speaks volumes about the care and dedication invested in its upkeep. For locals, particularly those who frequent HKL, Masjid Az-Zahrawi provides a sense of peace and continuity, a familiar and sacred space in what can often be a stressful environment.

Location and Accessibility
Masjid Az-Zahrawi Hospital Kuala Lumpur is centrally located within the expansive grounds of Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL), making it highly accessible for both the hospital community and the general public in Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur. The precise address is Jln Dr. Latif, 50586 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Jalan Dr. Latif is a key internal road within the hospital complex, connecting various departments and facilities. Its location at a "busy junction" within one of Malaysia's largest hospitals further underscores its prominent and accessible position.
For those traveling by car, HKL is a major landmark in Kuala Lumpur, well-connected by numerous main roads and highways from all directions. Visitors can navigate directly to the hospital complex. While the mosque itself is compact, "a paid car park is located nearby," providing convenient access for visitors who drive. This amenity is crucial, given the typically high volume of traffic and limited parking within a large hospital environment. Parking options ensure that worshippers can easily reach the mosque without significant hassle.
Public transportation offers excellent accessibility to Hospital Kuala Lumpur. Several bus routes service the HKL area, with numerous stops conveniently located around the hospital perimeter. The nearest monorail station (Chow Kit Monorail Station) and LRT stations (Titiwangsa LRT/Monorail Interchange, or even Sultan Ismail LRT Station) are also relatively close, from which a short taxi ride, ride-sharing service, or a connecting bus can bring visitors directly to the hospital grounds. The robust public transport network ensures that Masjid Az-Zahrawi is a highly convenient spiritual facility for all Kuala Lumpur residents, whether they are visiting the hospital or simply seeking a nearby mosque for prayers.

The mosque's purpose is rooted in faith and community service, making its fundamental offerings invaluable without a price tag.

Conclusion: Why Masjid Az-Zahrawi HKL is Suitable for Locals
For the Muslim residents of Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Masjid Az-Zahrawi at Hospital Kuala Lumpur stands as an exceptionally suitable and vital spiritual landmark. Its integration within one of the nation's largest hospitals makes it an indispensable facility that caters directly to the spiritual needs of a diverse and dynamic community.
Firstly, its strategic location within the HKL complex is paramount. For patients, their families, and the thousands of hospital staff, having a clean, accessible, and well-maintained mosque just steps away provides immense spiritual comfort and convenience. During what can often be challenging or stressful times in a hospital environment, the ability to perform daily prayers or find a moment of peace is invaluable. It removes the logistical barrier of seeking out a mosque further afield, allowing for uninterrupted spiritual practice.
Secondly, despite its "small and compact" nature, the mosque’s recent renovations and efficient use of space ensure that it can accommodate a significant number of congregants. The designated prayer halls for both male and female worshippers demonstrate a thoughtful approach to facilitating comfortable and respectful worship. Its ability to host Jumu'ah (Friday) prayers further solidifies its role as a critical communal hub, fostering a sense of unity and spiritual well-being among the hospital's extended community. The fact that it remains "clean and well-maintained" despite high traffic is a testament to dedicated upkeep, ensuring a pleasant environment for all.
While some reviews suggest a strict approach to non-prayer resting times by RELA personnel, this largely stems from the mosque's primary function to efficiently serve a continuous flow of worshippers in a limited space, especially at a busy public institution. This operational efficiency is, in fact, a strength, ensuring that the core purpose of prayer is always prioritized and facilitated for the maximum number of people.
In conclusion, Masjid Az-Zahrawi HKL is more than just a mosque; it is a fundamental spiritual resource for the Muslim community in Kuala Lumpur, particularly those connected to the hospital. Its accessible location, efficient design, and commitment to providing a clean space for prayer make it an indispensable part of our urban landscape. For locals seeking spiritual solace and a convenient place of worship within the bustling city, Masjid Az-Zahrawi offers a profound and necessary sanctuary.

Masjid Az-Zahrawi Hospital Kuala Lumpur Reviews
Masjid HKL is an older mosque that has recently undergone renovation, with various facilities upgraded to better serve the public. There is a paid car park located nearby, providing convenient access for visitors.Due to its location at a busy junction within one of Malaysia’s largest hospitals, the mosque itself is relatively small and compact, making the most of the limited space available.I visited the mosque during the Zohor prayer time, and observed that the prayer hall was already full with congregants. The ground floor is designated for male worshippers, while the upper floor is reserved for female worshippers.A group of RELA personnel was stationed at the entrance located at the rear of the mosque (opposite the qiblah direction). Based on my observation, their role appears to be ensuring that worshippers exit the prayer hall promptly after completing their prayers, likely to accommodate the continuous flow of people, especially during peak hours.Despite the mosque’s small size and the high volume of visitors, it remains clean and well-maintained.I was also informed that this mosque hosts Jumu‘ah (Friday) prayers, serving the hospital community and visitors alike.
Apr 27, 2025 · Azmi MahamadComfortable and beautiful inside. HOWEVER the rela guard here is watching every move u make everytime u step inside this mosque. I can say that this mosque is not “iktikaf” or “musafir” friendly. If u want to rest and wait for the adzan, they told u to wait outside and turn off the fan.
