HOTEL UPTOWN CHINATOWN positions itself as a value-for-money hotel, especially appealing to those who prioritize location and a good night's sleep over expansive spaces or lavish amenities. Its unique characteristic of having rooms without windows, initially seemingly a drawback, actually transforms into a significant advantage: "absolute silence from street noise, making it easy to get a good night’s sleep." This is a rare find in the bustling city center of Kuala Lumpur. While the hotel provides a "Basic+" experience, it focuses on delivering essential comforts like a "comfy bed, good aircon and a good shower," along with convenient in-room amenities such as a kettle and hairdryer. Its core appeal lies in being a practical, secure, and strategically located base for exploring Chinatown and beyond, making it a "decent place for a couple of nights" for those who want to be right in the thick of the action.

Further afield, but still walkable for many, are areas like Dataran Merdeka and the River of Life project.
- Food Haven: The surrounding area is a "highlight, with plenty of street food, cafes, and restaurants nearby." This means an endless array of dining options, from local delicacies to international cuisine, available right outside the hotel's doorstep, catering to all tastes and budgets.
Despite some of the rooms being "located underground," the overall location and accessibility make HOTEL UPTOWN CHINATOWN an extremely convenient base for experiencing the best of Kuala Lumpur without the need for extensive travel, perfectly suited for us locals looking for an easy city getaway.

- Area for Improvement in Cleaning: It is important to acknowledge the serious cleanliness issue mentioned in one review (a used condom). While the hotel acknowledges this as an oversight and expresses a commitment to improvement, this highlights a critical area where attention to detail is paramount to ensure a consistently pleasant and hygienic stay for all guests. HOTEL UPTOWN CHINATOWN Reviews
Hotel Uptown Chinatown offers great value for money, especially for budget travelers looking for a convenient location. Despite the rooms not having windows, this actually turns out to be a plus—there’s absolute silence from street noise, making it easy to get a good night’s sleep. The self-check-in machine works, but we were lucky that the manager was there to assist us, as checkout turned out to be troublesome—the system failed to recognize the key card, keeping our deposit in the machine. The location is a highlight, with plenty of street food, cafes, and restaurants nearby, and easy access to the metro or walkable attractions. The air conditioner works perfectly, keeping the room comfortable. While not overly spacious, the room doesn’t feel small, and the bathroom is surprisingly large, with extra-hot water and strong shower pressure. The bed and pillows are very comfortable, and there are plenty of electrical outlets that work with EU, UK and AU plugs. WiFi was reliable throughout the stay, though phone coverage inside the building is nonexistent, as the rooms are located underground. The overall cleanliness was fine, but there was one major issue—on the first night, we discovered a used condom on top of the soap dispenser during our first shower. This was clearly missed by housekeeping, possibly because it was out of their line of sight. While this may have been an unfortunate oversight, a more thorough cleaning routine is necessary to prevent such incidents.Despite that, the hotel provided a good experience overall, especially in terms of price and location. However, attention to detail in cleaning needs improvement to ensure a consistently pleasant stay. Even considering the bad incident, we would choose this hotel as our base again if we need to come back to KL
Jun 03, 2025 · Federico RuzichDecent place for a couple of nights in Chinatown but really only if you're a solo traveller.Basic+ hotel. Safe, secure, with a comfy bed, good aircon and a good shower. Also provided is a kettle, hairdryer and shower gel.Downsides: 1st very iffy wifi. Kept falling over and when working was very slow. 2nd very small room for double bed with nowhere really to put anything. OK for a solo backpacker but a pair with suitcases might find it difficult.
Feb 15, 2025 · Chris DoreI liked my room, it had a kettle, a very comfortable bed and a view of the second highest building in the world. The disadvantages were the small size of the room and that the elevator was broken.
Oct 12, 2024 · Christian KeilNot great. Walls were unclean, parts had fallen off. Sink in the bathroom had a leak resulting in a constantly wet floor. Elevator stopped working. Overall pretty bad experience. Location is good and the bed is comfortable.
Mar 22, 2024 · Brandt ProzeniukWow. Well, I've traveled through quite a few countries, and this is hands down the worst hotel I've been to. I've seen jail cells larger than the rooms. The internet access is absolutely horrible, and if you're on a lower floor, your data won't work either. The wall is about 3 inches from the toilet, so you can't sit comfortably. You can only get on the bed from the front because of how small the room is.On top of it all, this has been one of the most expensive hotels I've stayed at, which makes it all worse. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL. YOU WILL REGRET IT, I PROMISE.
