Among these, the Moroccan Pavilion Putrajaya, often affectionately known as Astaka Morocco, truly stands out as a hidden gem. Tucked away within the lush expanse of the Putrajaya Botanical Garden, this magnificent structure offers a captivating journey to the heart of Morocco without ever leaving our city. It's a testament to exquisite craftsmanship and a symbol of cultural exchange, designed to transport you to a world of intricate patterns, vibrant colours, and serene courtyards.
The Moroccan Pavilion is more than just a building; it's an immersive experience. Every archway, every tile, and every carved detail tells a story of rich history and artistic heritage. Locals have come to appreciate it not just for its stunning beauty, which makes it a popular spot for photography, but also for the peaceful atmosphere it offers. Whether you're a photography enthusiast, a culture lover, or simply looking for a unique place to spend an afternoon, the Moroccan Pavilion provides a truly memorable outing right here in Presint 1.
Visitors frequently express awe at the meticulous detail and the authentic Moroccan ambiance. It’s a place that consistently earns recommendations for its unique aesthetic and its ability to offer a tranquil escape from the bustling city. Its integration within the larger Botanical Garden also provides an added bonus, allowing for a full day of exploration and relaxation.
The Moroccan Pavilion Putrajaya is beautifully situated within the Putrajaya Botanical Garden (Taman Botani Putrajaya) in Presint 1, 62000 Putrajaya, Malaysia. Its location within one of Putrajaya's most expansive and well-maintained green spaces adds to its charm, allowing visitors to enjoy the pavilion as part of a larger garden exploration.
For residents traveling by car, the pavilion is easily accessible via Putrajaya's well-structured road network. There is parking available near the entrance of the Botanical Garden, and from there, the pavilion is typically a short walk away. The entire Presint 1 area is designed for ease of navigation, ensuring a smooth journey to the destination.
If you're utilizing public transport, you can reach Putrajaya Sentral via the KLIA Transit train. From Putrajaya Sentral, local Nadi Putra buses or ride-hailing services like Grab can take you directly to the Putrajaya Botanical Garden. Given its prominence within the Botanical Garden, many drivers and local transport services are familiar with the location of the Moroccan Pavilion. The accessibility makes it a convenient spot for locals seeking a unique cultural experience without the need for extensive travel.
The Moroccan Pavilion primarily functions as a cultural exhibition space and a visual attraction. While it doesn't offer commercial services in the traditional sense, it provides:
- Access to stunning Moroccan architecture and intricate interior designs.
- A picturesque backdrop for photography (Note: Photography might be restricted in certain internal areas, and professional photoshoots may incur additional charges. It's advisable to inquire at the entrance).
- A peaceful environment for leisurely walks and contemplation within the pavilion and its surrounding courtyards.
- Educational insights into Moroccan art, culture, and craftsmanship through its design elements.
- Proximity to the wider Putrajaya Botanical Garden, offering additional amenities like walking paths, restrooms, and potentially F&B outlets within the garden complex.
- A unique venue for special events, potentially available for rental, offering a distinct cultural ambiance.
- Authentic Moroccan Architecture: The most striking feature of the pavilion is its incredibly authentic and detailed Moroccan design. Every aspect, from the intricate geometric tile work (zellij) on the walls and floors to the elaborate stucco carvings, hand-carved cedar wood ceilings, and graceful horseshoe arches, transports visitors directly to a Moroccan palace. The craftsmanship is truly exceptional and a testament to the skill of the Moroccan artisans who worked on it.
- Lush Courtyards and Fountains: True to Moroccan architectural tradition, the pavilion features serene internal courtyards with calming water features and fountains. These spaces provide a cool and peaceful retreat, inviting visitors to sit, relax, and soak in the ambiance. The interplay of light and shadow in these areas is particularly beautiful.
- Rose-Tinted Granite: One customer review specifically mentions the "rose tinted granite" used in the mosque (likely referring to the Putra Mosque nearby, which is pink, but the pavilion itself also uses warm-toned materials). The use of natural materials with rich hues adds to the pavilion's warm and inviting aesthetic, enhancing its authentic feel.
- Photographer's Paradise: The intricate details, vibrant colours, and unique architectural elements make the Moroccan Pavilion an exceptionally popular spot for photography. It's a favourite for personal snapshots, pre-wedding photoshoots, and architectural photography, offering countless "Instagram-worthy" angles.
- Part of a Larger Experience: The pavilion's location within the sprawling Putrajaya Botanical Garden means that a visit can be combined with exploring the beautiful gardens, enjoying a leisurely walk, or even having a picnic. This makes it a perfect component of a longer, relaxing day out in Putrajaya.
- Cultural Exchange Objective: Built as a symbol of friendship and cultural exchange between Malaysia and Morocco, the pavilion serves as a beautiful representation of how architectural heritage can bridge nations and offer global perspectives right here in Putrajaya.
As a cultural landmark and part of the Putrajaya Botanical Garden, the Moroccan Pavilion typically has a standard entrance fee rather than offering ongoing commercial "promotions." However, it is worth noting the current pricing structure:
- Adults: RM3
- Students: RM1 (Proof of student ID required)
Access to the outer courtyard areas might sometimes be free, but to fully experience the intricate interior galleries and courtyards, a ticket is required. Any special offers would usually be related to large-scale events held within the Botanical Garden or city-wide tourism initiatives by Perbadanan Putrajaya. For residents planning a professional photoshoot or videography, there may be additional charges, so it's always best to inquire at the entrance or contact Perbadanan Putrajaya for the latest information on fees and any specific regulations.
For general inquiries regarding the Moroccan Pavilion Putrajaya, or the Putrajaya Botanical Garden in which it is located, you can reach out to the relevant authorities responsible for its management, which is typically Perbadanan Putrajaya or the Botanical Garden management.

Moroccan Pavilion Putrajaya Reviews
This is definitely a must visit place.. The mosque is beautifully made with rose Tinted Granite.. excellent craftsmanship! Post 4-5pm it's better if you want to roam around the place otherwise with scorching heat it's quite draining...
May 06, 2025 · Debopriya MukherjeeAfter a walk at the botanical garden, it’s nice to stop by this beautiful spot. Along the way, there’s a lovely garden. It’s a budget-friendly place that’s perfect for taking photos. Unless you are planning to walk around the botanical park, the Astaka is just a short walk/sight-seeing, and the on-site activities are somewhat limited. It’s a good idea to explore what’s nearby to see if it fits your plans before making a long trip.

May 20, 2025 · Muhammad Ikraam AbdullahThe location is very uniquely placed in Putrajaya whereby there a lake ending with pathway for jog and a nice piece of field of which we can do activities like zumba, taichi and many others. The place would be idle for wedding photoshoot.
